Dear Yuletide Writer....
(Note: I'm continuing to edit this, though I tend to add rather than take away, especially with prompts. My requests as written in my signup are at the bottom, and I've added requested characters where applicable.)
So, you got me for Yuletide and there’s probably a lot of panic involved! But don’t worry. I’m easy to please, I’ll make suggestions here but Optional Details Are Optional. I've tried not to write a huge letter, but I've tried to get at least a few prompts in, because if you're like me, you'll like having at least something to go on.
Generally, I’m happy with gen, slash, or het of any rating, and while poly is not normally my thing, I'm perfectly happy to read it if that's the kind of thing you write. I’m surprisingly vanilla when it comes to sex kinks. The things I’d really like you to avoid vore and shotacon, though. I don’t have a problem with late teens having sex, which is a good thing considering some of my fandoms. Try to avoid dubcon and noncon, but I am okay with if they’re warned for. My taste for incest pairings varies per fandom – I don’t have an issue with them in Final Fantasy II (or at least with Firion/Maria, who are in some materials adoptive siblings), but I get squicked in Fatal Frame in most cases – see the note below under Fatal Frame. Deathfic is kind of inevitable in my fandoms and I don't have an issue with it. I've written Mpreg, so it doesn't squick me, but I just don't see it for any of these fandoms.
If you're curious, here's my narrative kinks - that is, stuff I tend to write and like to read.
And now, the fandoms in AO3 order (which makes Fatal Frame last):
Final Fantasy II: Despite not having the most detailed storyline ever (darn you, 1988 videogame limits), I love the heck out of this game. My favorite character is Minwu, with Maria a close behind. It’s actually pretty dark, comparatively speaking – as someone on TvTropes pointed out, the world isn’t in good shape by the end of the game. But I find the characters, or what we get and what we make of them, pretty darn interesting. This is a good game for worldbuilding, just because we don’t get to touch on anybody’s stories for too long and therefore there’s quite a bit to explore! I consider the dialogue for the island villagers to be problematic, so please be aware of that.
I have a slight preference for gen in this fandom, though if you want to write me Minwu/any hero or Maria/any hero (except of course Leon), I’m fine with that. I also like the canon Gordon/Hilda.
Prompts:
* Minwu and Hilda. She’s his boss, he’s her friend. Tell me how they cope together during the war, and how Hilda deals after.
* Maria and Leon start the slow process of recovering from the events of the game.
* Starting a romance in wartime.
* So, what does happen to Machanon after the events of Soul of Rebirth? Does it go away? Does it change? And what happens to the party?
* What if Minwu had survived opening the door to get Ultima?
* Tell me about the girl in this screencap. She's in Paloom when you're going to Salamand for the first time, and I find her interesting. Is she serious? Or is she asking just for fun?
Most of my Final Fantasy II fics, with some I and III, for your reading pleasure.
Kamen Rider Fourze: Friendship (and love) is a major favorite thing of mine. While I like most KR series and most of them have friendship themes, Fourze deals with the theme heavily - to the point of bringing the power of friendship and love to the major villains. I like how Gentaro manages to build friendships with the other members of the Club, and reaches out to those who have wronged him (with rare exception). Sometimes, he makes me facepalm, but more often he makes me smile.
So, if you're writing this, I'd prefer friendships over relationships, though I'm perfectly open to those, too. (I listed Gentaro and Kengo, but don't limit yourself to them if you want to primarily write about Yuuki, for example.)
Prompts:
* The club, when they're not saving the world (or the high school).
* Gentaro getting through the loss of Nadeshiko and the club's attempt to cheer him up.
* Emoto, pre-series, with baby Kengo. What did he think of a baby being in a space station, and how did he discover the truth about Kengo? Why did he do what he did?
* Gentaro and Yuuki, pre-series. Tell me an adorable tale of little!Yuuki and little!Gentaro.
* Heck, Yuuki's parents are adorable, and I'd love a fic dealing with a normal day in their household.
* Kengo, what he is post-series, and how he deals with that.
* If you selected any, and wanted romantic, I'd be happy with Shun going after Miu, or Tomoko and Ryuusei, or anything Gentaro/Kengo.
My two Fourze fics, both on AO3.
Skulking Permit (X Minus One): I try to expose myself to new fandoms each year at Yuletide, which is how I found this and fell in love with it. I'm not really fond of radio plays, so this is kind of rare for me. But I love the background, how they don't know what a criminal is, or how to be violent, especially in contrast to Earth. For this fandom, as much as I adore the canon characters, I'm more interested in how Earth got to be Imperial Earth, and what things are like day to day on New Delaware. (However, if you're into the canon characters, I've left a prompt or two, because I realize not everybody is as into worldbuilding as I am.)
Prompts:
* What made Imperial Earth this way? Why are they so determined to eliminate all aliens?
* How did the people of New Delaware end up with no crime, to the point where it makes no sense to Tom? How has there been no murder in 200 years?
* What did they do with all those extra buildings that they had to build? Or heck, what happened after? Was New Delaware quarantined?
* What's it like being a Colonial Contact Inspector? How do they deal with all the lost colonies, and how typical was Inspector 37?
* A day-in-the-life of the people of New Delaware, or how it might be on one of the spaceships of Imperial Earth.
* Tell me about the events of the story from someone's POV. How does Tom feel being a Criminal? What is the Mayor thinking of with his scheme? What do one of the others think about this whole crazy thing and what they're having to do to get ready for the aliens?
Zero/Project Zero/Fatal Frame series: I met Fatal Frame a few years ago when someone handed me a PS2 controller in the middle of Fatal Frame III. I sucked at killing the ghost, to put it mildly, but the game stuck in the back of my mind, and I started watching Let's Plays and saving up to buy a used PS2. I figured I'd start in order, so I played Fatal Frame I and fell in love with it. I really like that I'm playing women (most of the time) who just keep going and going, no matter what. Sure, they have moments of despair (see one of Miku's choices in Fatal Frame III), but they just keep going. Apart from a couple of people with sixth senses and one special case, most of these people are perfectly ordinary people. What I really love, more than the fact that most of the protagonists are women, is that most everybody has some backstory or hint of a backstory. Yes, a lot of the ghosts are trying to kill you, but even as they are, you have to be aware that something nasty happened to them, and they're doing that because of their sad demise. Yeah, even as you're swearing at the screen because you've been scared out of your mind. I mean, think of what happened to Blinded in the first game, Chitose in the second, Kyouka in the third, and Tsubaki in the fourth. Or for that matter, Kaito in Spirit Camera, which I have not played but I have a vague clue of the plot.
I have to admit, I prefer I and III the most, but that doesn't mean you have to skip II or IV. I've seen a playthrough for Spirit Camera, but I'm not that familiar. However, if you want to write it, then go right ahead, use one of the general prompts if you want. As regards to incest, I know that Sae and Mayu have potentially squicky one-sided relationships with their sisters, and that can be a fairly powerful part of their characters, especially with Sae. However, I'd like it if people who are not Sae or Mayu to recognize that said relationship might not be healthy. I'm divided on how I'd react to Mutsuki/Itsuki, but I'd be majorly squicked at Mafuyu/Miku and Kei/either of his nieces. I slightly prefer gen or het in this universe. In terms of het pairings, I go mostly for Mafuyu/Kirie, Miku/Kei, and Yuu/Rei, though Ryozo/Yae and Kaname/Reika are appealing as well.
I've basically asked for 0 characters because I like all the nominated ones. I'm also happy with worldbuilding, if that's your thing.
Prompts:
* Take a ghost and tell me about their lives before they ended up being killed by evil/people influenced and infected by evil. This can be a main ghost or one of the minor ones that shows up, but I'm interested in who they were before they ended up trying to kill the protagonist.
* Yae and Ryozo set up at the mansion, and Yae tries to get used to the unsettling place after getting equally unsettling flashes.
* Miku after the events of the first game, recovering from what happened and getting used to Yuu and Rei, and especially a concerned Yuu.
* An AU, featuring what would have happened if one of the non-canon endings happened, especially the happier ones. (I adore the heck out of Shadow Festival and Frozen Butterfly, but neither of them lend themselves to followup fic unless you want to deal with angsty!Kei or write a bunch of OCs. BTW, I'm totally happy with OCs.)
* Fluffy Mafuyu, Kei, and Yuu fic. How did they become friends?
* Give Kaname and Reika a happy ending.
* Any of the characters recovering from the events of their games. Going somewhere nice, for example, or being with their friends.
* Mio and Mayu pre-game. Tell me a story where one sister saved the other.
* Mio gets used to life without Mayu.
* Little!Miku and Little!Mafuyu being told tales by their grandma Mikoto.
* Miku deals with the fact that she's related to Sae, and what happened at the Lost Village to Mio.
* What it's like for Mafuyu and Kirie in their afterlife, and if Miku ever visits.
* Choushiro thinks about what happens to him between his revelation and the ending.
* Ruka and her relationship with her family, even at times where she doesn't remember a lot.
* Misaki and Sakuya, their friendship. I find it beautiful despite everything.
My Fatal Frame fics, which include I-IV but are heavy on I and III.
If you're not familiar with any of these, I wrote a bit about three of them in an "introduce your fandoms" post, and here's a similar one for Skulking Permit. Of the four series, Skulking Permit is the shortest at 30 minutes, and I think Fourze is the longest (about 16 hours for the entire series). Final Fantasy II takes about 4 hours to play through at the least, and a lot of the Fatal Frame games (with the exception of Spirit Camera) take about 6-8 hours apiece. Incidentally, I couldn't include this on the introduction/promo post, but the fansub groups Over-Time and TV-Nihon fansubbed Fourze. I also record missions/fights with commentary sometimes; here's a selection of my favorite missions in Fatal Frame I.
Here are my actual "Optional Details" sections of my signup (with the exception of Skulking Permit, where I copied the above description), which mostly repeat the stuff above.
Final Fantasy II: (Minwu, Maria)
My favorites are Minwu and Maria, but generally speaking, I like everybody but Borghen (does anybody like Borghen?). One of the beautiful parts of this game is that you can really feel for these characters, despite limited room for dialogue and such. I welcome worldbuilding - what would it be like to be in this place where the Emperor is trying to destroy - er, conquer - the world? If you want to focus on Minwu, I'd love to see more details of his friendship with Hilda, pre-game or during-game (or, if you can figure out how to do it, post-game!). For Maria, there's her family - she's greatly worried about Leon, and I'd like to see how she copes on the road while they're looking for him, or after, where he's full of guilt over what happened.
Kamen Rider Fourze: (Gentaro, Kengo)
Family and friendships are two of the things I love, and Kamen Rider Fourze is all about friendship - even reaching out your hand to those not quite willing to clasp it. I'm asking for Gentaro here because he's so willing to do just that. He might not be very smart, but he's caring and compassionate, and he doesn't give up. I'm also asking for Kengo, because he has to cope with so much (and given what he has to do tech support for, I don't blame him). But I welcome any of the nominated characters, because they're so darn awesome, Yuuki especially! I'd love a story where the club comes together to help Gentaro get over Nadeshiko, or little!Gentaro and little!Yuuki, or Kengo dealing with what he is, post-series.
Zero/Project Zero/Fatal Frame series: (Zero/Any)
What I love about this series is the characters - for the most part, strong female characters who might be scared but keep going (and I love the very large amount of memorable female ghosts). I have a small preference for I and III, but I'm just as happy to get fic for II, IV, or Spirit Camera. I've designated no characters because I love all the nominated ones, and I'm a big fan of worldbuilding. All I ask is that any incest be portrayed as squicky unless you're writing from Mayu's or Sae's POVs and feel their relationship towards their sisters falls under that.
If you are so inclined, I'd love a story about Ryozo and Yae getting used to Himuro Mansion, or Miku being Not In A Good Place after the events of I, and Yuu trying to help with that. Fluffy friendship fic with Yuu and his friends. Miku realizing that she's related to Sae and how she and Mio deal with that. Or maybe a story where one of the non-canon endings happened, especially one of the happier ones. If you're more fond of worldbuilding/minor characters, I'd love a story about one of the ghosts, what their lives were like before and how they ended up where they were killed.
