Review - Undead Green Blood

"Undead Green Blood" is a book covering the designs of the Undead in Kamen Rider Blade.

Part of the design for Scarab Undead

This book about/by Yasushi Nirasawa (Nirasawa Yasushi), covers the designs of every Undead that showed up in Kamen Rider Blade. It's not a cheap book (it's 2,980 yen!), but if you're a fan of the designs (I belive he also did the Worm design in Kabuto?), it's well worth the price.

This book isn't long; it's about 120 pages. It includes designs on every single Undead shown in the series or movie, including the Trials, as well as pictures of the finished design, and also includes rough sketch galleries and unused designs. It also includes sketches for such Undead-related things as the motorcycle "Black Fang". An interview with the designer ends the book. The paper is fairly heavy stock, and while this is a paperback, it does sport a dust cover.

I, of course, love the designs. All the pages are full-color, and the designs are vivid and most of them take up an entire page. I can't read the Japanese in it at the moment (I'll take a dictionary to the text later), but the pictures help me, well, get the picture. There are several unused designs that interested me; for example, there was a mold Undead, and Orchid, Capricorn (labeled "Goat"), and Spider Undead get different designs. I kind of like the alternate design for Capricorn, and the Spider one is interesting. There's also apparently a difference between the belts for the upper-level and lower-level Undead that I'm going to have to go back and watch for; any excuse to see the series again!

I really liked Blade, and the Undead designs were a lot to do with it. I know he did some other work, so I'll have to check it out. If it's anything like this (and I'm guessing it is), he's got a new fan.
