The Great WIP Poll of 2018
I'm going to sit down and do Fandom Snowflake, but there are certain things I'd like to do this year:
* Do some stuff I keep saying that I'm going to do fandom-wise.
* Get my archive up (which kind of falls under the above)
* Add some of my odd stuff from old archives to AO3.
I also signed up for GYWO 2018, but this time I'm tracking days, not word count. So far I've done 2 days this month out of 120 I need to do this year.
In order to focus on getting things done, I'm going to be working on WIPs this year. Under the cut are 11 blurb/synopses and notes about where I'm running into trouble on them, and I'm aiming to get 3-6 done this year. One of my goals is to try to get some of the Kamen Rider Kiva WIPs done so that they're out of my hair. I just need some help from people to figure out what I should work on. (Thanks to everybody who answered last year's poll. I'm trying anew this year!)
I've made the poll anonymous with an area to leave a note if you want (or you can just reply, if you don't mind doing that). If you're not familiar with the fandom, just treat the story as original fic.
From Whose Hands We Never Quite Escape (Fatal Frame):
Kirie, infected with the Malice, has killed siblings Miku and Mafuyu, and now they're doomed to serve her forever, unless they can find a way to get the Camera Obscura into a living person's hand so that someone can finally end Kirie's curse. Kirie, of course, is glad to have a "family" that she can devote herself to, even if they don't want to be said "family". On top of everything else, Miku has now developed a new power that will either trap both siblings forever, or be their salvation....
Issues I'm running into: I'm as in the dark as Miku is about her newfound powers. On top of that I seem to have acquired an audience who might like Malice!Kirie more than a happy ending for Miku and Mafuyu.
As Opposed To Someone Else (Kamen Rider Drive)
When Banno made the Roidmudes, he also experimented on his own children, giving Kiriko cybernetic legs and Gou a cybernetic arm. Heart, learning of this fact, goes to rescue what he considers "organic Roidmudes". Kiriko realizes that she and her brother do not belong with the Roidmudes and manage to escape. However, Heart has not forgotten the missing siblings, and now wants to make sure they're safe, any way he can.
Issues I'm running into: Considering that this is a remix that I started because the "Taking Up A Tape" universe ended up diverging quite a bit from canon, I got stuck after Shinnosuke told Gou that he was being tracked. My problem is that Kiriko can't figure out how to get out (Brain and Medic are both more perceptive and devoted to Heart than they were in the original fics), plus I can't decide whether I should try the happier ending (Kiriko convinces Heart to let them be) or the dark ending (both Kiriko and Gou end up brainwashed and on the side of the Roidmudes).
Number 065 (Kamen Rider Drive)
Shinnosuke doesn't know that he's one of the 108 Roidmudes, the lost 065. When Brain discovers the truth, Heart moves to recover their lost colleague, while Shinnosuke's friends and coworkers try to keep him on the side of the humans. Shinnosuke has to decide what side he wants to be on, but Heart is determined to take the choice away from him for his own good.
Issues I'm running into: This was originally kind of a cell phone novel type fic (short parts posted often), but when the comments stopped, so did my fic. Also, I'm a bit embarrassed by the fact that I totally forgot that 065 had come up in previous episodes. That being said, I think if I could figure out how to get Shinnosuke to broker peace, this is one of the fics I could actually finish.
How Much Daylight (Kamen Rider Gaim)
Kouta, part of the prestigious Kureshima family, ran away from home after he discovered Yggdrasill's plans. He found refuge with a young woman named Akira Kazuraba and she adopted him. He would have loved to live his new life completely separate from his old one, but he found a loose thread to wrap up with his old one: making sure his younger brother Mitsuzane didn't follow in his footsteps. But that involved contacting older brother Takatora, which turned out to be a mistake. Takatora needs Kouta back in his old role for the good of the Earth, and he's not willing to take no for an answer.
Issues I'm running into: Mostly Kouta is too nice to be a Kureshima and I can't find a scenario where he does anything useful....
Smoothing Skirts (Kamen Rider Gaim)
Michi, the daughter of the Kureshima family, tries to keep her two worlds separate: the world of Team Gaim, and the world of the Kureshimas. But when her Team needs her help, she ends up making a choice that will make her worlds collide and her loyalties change. (This is a genderbend of Mitsuzane's plotline, with some alterations.)
Issues I'm running into: I'm getting into the darker parts of Mitsuzane's arc and I'm having trouble figuring out how to alter them for Michi.
Finding A Little Sister In The House (Kamen Rider Kiva)
After his traitorous mother has been killed, teenage King Taiga goes to the house that she lived in. Once there, he discovers that he has a baby sister named Wataru, his possible Queen and at the very least his responsibility. He manages to get her to safety in Castle Dran, but much to his frustration none of his guardians or advisors consider Wataru either Fangire or a candidate for Queen. Taiga must both make his confused, fearful sister feel at home and also convince the adults around him that yes, Wataru is staying - after all, he could hardly condemn his baby sister to a life as a human....
Issues I'm running into: It probably doesn't help that Taiga/Wataru fans are very enthusiastic in some ways (I get to the next part when I get to the next part, thank you very much), but also that Taiga doesn't have much power and Wataru doesn't know how to get out of Dran (and Taiga certainly won't help her.
On Being A Girl (Kamen Rider Kiva)
When Wataru, Taiga's male Queen, starts having stomach pains, Taiga searches for an answer. After all, he can't bear to see his Queen and little brother in pain. The doctor discovers that Wataru might be male in human form, but he's always been a girl as a Fangire, and that's the gender that counts. Now Wataru has to fight to retain the gender that he's always seen himself as, while the Elders are very enthusiastic about this new revelation and so is Taiga.
Issues I'm running into: Along with the same Taiga/Wataru issue I mentioned above, I can't write sex scenes to save my life. If I can get around that, dealing with the gender issues might be very interesting.
Song In A Painting (Kamen Rider Kiva)
Wataru saw her mother killed when she was a little girl, and has sworn revenge against both Bishop, the murderer, and Taiga, who stood and watched. Now an adult, she finds out that her mother tried very hard to keep her from being Queen, but the enchantment has unraveled. At first, she thinks it's a great revenge, as Taiga will go mad without her. And yet, Taiga is very good at finding people, and now she has to find out how to make sure he and Bishop die for what happened so many years ago.
Issues I'm running into: Same Taiga/Wataru issues! Also, Wataru's stuck in Castle Dran for the moment (yes, in two stories now) and is still too traumatized and shocked to realize that she can start killing people now, thanks.
The Unstuck Country (Kamen Rider Kiva)
After Taiga and Wataru have resolved things in-series, Taiga starts working with the Blue Sky Association to find a new food source for the Fangire. Unfortunately, not all Fangire are happy about this idea, and Taiga finds himself and Wataru under attack. In addition, an old friend of Taiga's mother Maya wants to teach Wataru to be Fangire, and the Fangire are trying to eliminate the last two Mermen - Ramon and his daughter Aya.
Issues I'm running into: Apparently I like worldbuilding more than I like plotting. I need to get back to people trying to kill Taiga, Wataru, and to a minor extent Ramon and Aya. (Or as I wrote in my first draft of this, "My plot is wandering and it doesn't know how to come back."
Useless Things (Kamen Rider Kiva)
Nago discovers that Wataru is not only part Fangire, but the hereditary Fangire King. Now he has to keep Wataru from finding out the truth, or at least keep him in check. Unfortunately for him, the Fangire have been keeping an eye on Wataru too, and are determined to get a King out of this. Ultimately, both sides are wrangling Wataru and trying to bend Wataru to their side as he is biologically changing into the Fangire King.
Issues I'm running into: I'm trying to figure out where my plot is and how to get it back to actually being a plot. (Or, as I noted in the first draft of this, "My OCs like their worldbuilding and forget that I have a plot to advance".
The Dreamt-Of Call (Power Rangers RPM)
In order to save the world, the RPM morphers pre-chose their users. Unfortunately, that meant that Doctor K had to go find her Rangers, aided by the fact that all of them were drawn to the base and their morphers. Scott, Summer, and Flynn came on without issue, but it took a while to find Dillon and Ziggy. Unfortunately, Dillon isn't really keen on staying in Corinth, and Ziggy currently has amnesia.
Issues I'm running into: I need to resolve Ziggy's amnesia and get him to get Dillon to stop trying to kidnap him. Then I can finally finish this fic before it drags out longer. It's the amnesia that's the sticking point.
