Go Out and Play (Kamen Rider Hibiki, Asumu)

"You're really working hard," his mother praised. She seemed happy, with his new dedication, but cautious. "But don't you miss your friends?"
His friends. It was funny how his world had changed when he'd become involved with Hibiki-san, Takeshi, and the Oni. Being an Oni could be a lonely thing, withdrawing from the outside world to take on monsters everybody thought were myth. He'd started training for it himself, but he'd realized that it wasn't what he wanted.
And there was nothing wrong in choosing not to do something, right? As long as not doing something wasn't breaking the law.
He'd rather study to become a doctor and help Oni than be one himself. Kiriya-kun had isolated himself with his attitude, so it wasn't a big deal for him to isolate himself more, walk into the Oni lifestyle that he'd found himself more suited for that anyone would have ever thought.
"Akira-san and I spend time together," he defended. The two of them, ex-Oni trainees, though Akira-san told him that some part of her still longed to be Oni. Takeshi didn't let go easily, either, of those who had once belonged.
Of course, he was still planning to be Takeshi, and when he grew a nerve and got into college, he planned to ask the Tachibanas about what he needed to do to start training to be a doctor to Oni. He still wanted to help. He still wanted to be part of that world.
He'd just do it his way. And this time, he wouldn't be wishy-washy, trapped between the desire to help and the feeling that he didn't belong.
"Well, Akira-chan is very cute, but...." she sighed. "What about Kirya-kun, or your friend Hibiki-san?" His mom had liked Hibiki-san, but Hibiki-san had been so busy training Kiriya-kun that he didn't come over much anymore.
"The're doing okay," he said. He didn't really want to talk about it.
"Asumu...." His mother shook her head. "There's being dedicated, and there's isolating yourself. For once, get out of your books. Spend time in the sunshine. You have your life ahead of you!"
In other words, go out and play, even though he didn't feel like it. He closed the book he'd been studying with a sigh.
"That's more like it! Now, go out, spend some time with people your age," she told him, handing him his jacket. "Enjoy life!"
He didn't argue, just put on his jacket and left his books behind. Went out in the sunlight. Tried to make his mom happy.
And someday, he'd make other people happy too.
