On solicitation of paid fanart (and other fanworks) on fics.
I've put together this post because I wanted to have something to point people to when they send me unsolicited ads for fannish stuff.
Look, I get that people want to generate income/do good by doing fanart/fanfic/podfic/fanmix commissions. I totally get that, I've commissioned podfic through a couple of charity auctions. And if I've sent you here, I want you to know I bear you no ill will. (Unless you're a scammer that only provides AI generated work or no work at all. Then I bear you ill will.)
However, not only do I consider soliciting paid fanart/other fanworks in fic comments crass, it's also against the AO3 TOS - II.C. to be exact. It's also mentioned in I.F.5, but there's a FAQ linked in II.C that might help you understand better. (Basically, fanworks exist in a very grey area, especially in the U.S. where AO3 is located; allowing people to offer commercial works on the platform endangers AO3's existence.)
So if you are reading this, I wish you the best of luck, but please... solicit your fanworks someplace else!
