Challenge: Letters to past selves
This isn't a challenge I've picked up (consciously) from elsewhere. I was having a talk with someone and was reminded of an exercise a therapist had me do a couple of years ago to try to raise my self-esteem in the middle of a depressive episode.
(What I learned from that was not quite what the therapist intended, but that's a longer story.)
Anyway, here's the challenge: take a character. Write a letter from them to a past self, or a letter to them from a future self, and post it.
Mine is under cut, to save friendslists. It follows up "Lying Naked", but you don't need to read that for this (and might not want to, because it deals with dubcon). The writer is Ikari Gai. I'll write a summary later.
To my past self,
I guess we're writing these magic letters, huh? Well, I don't mind at all!
I finally got on a Sentai team! I wish I could tell you a lot about them, but I can't. Being on the team, though, is the best thing that ever happened to me. My teammates and I get along great.
But I guess this letter's to give you a bit of advice, so here I go!
My team's a lot different than I expected. We have a lot in common with each other, but there are a lot of differences. It's getting used to those differences that's the hard part. I guess that my advice is not to try to change them, because I really wanted to! But it hurt my team, and you don't want to do that, ever.
We're extremely close - we eat together, hang out together, and sometimes we even do things I'd back away from if they weren't part of being on this team. We don't do bad things, mind you, just some stuff that doesn't affect us saving the world. And some discomfort is worth it, at least that's what I tell myself.
On the other hand... if you ever walk into your Red's bedroom and everyone else is taking off their clothes, maybe it's time to suddenly decide to do inventory as I'm doing right now. It's-
Um. And as I wrote that, I had my half-naked Red show up wondering what I was doing. I'd better go.
In any case, they're really nice people and pretty much my world right now. So, keep trying! You'll get what you want if you try!
