Antiwar Sermon Brings IRS Warning

Basically, for those who don't want to click, the IRS has sent a letter to All Saints Episcopal Church of Pasadena, CA because they believe that the church interfered with an election in 2004. The main point of debate was the wording of the pastor's sermon one Sunday where he "imagined how Jesus would admonish Bush and Kerry if he debated them". And the pastor was very anti-Iraq war.

Which, for those not familiar with that particular church, isn't all that uncommon for it. I went to All Saints for two years. It's been picketed. It's been protested against. It's very liberal and *very* socially activist. (It's also a very cool church right across from city hall in Pasadena, if you're ever in the area.)

Heck, it's not the first time that I know of that a pastor or church connected to me has been in trouble. At least one of my pastors has performed/was intending to perform (as part of a large group of pastors, as a protest) a gay marriage, and my grandfather was suspected of communism when he was in the pulpit in Spokane.

ETA: The letter in question would revoke the church's tax-exempt status for the IRS.

ETA: Former pastor. I get Bacon and Regas mixed up, because I've had both on the pulpit.
