Remix Redux signups open!
Mar. 13th, 2011 12:44 pmI wandered into the lj comm remixers_lounge, and apparently, signups are open! List of fandoms under the cut.
( The good news, Highlander is still eligible! )
I only qualify under Power Rangers (I've written Doctor Who (1963), X-Men (Movies) and Highlander, but not enough to qualify, as I do not have 5 fics over 500/7 fics over 100 or any mix of the above), so I'll be signing up under that.
Date-wise, signups close March 19th, fics must be in by April 23rd, and there will be a version of Yuletide's Madness, apparently, but opt-in only.
I wrote my thoughts on remixing in an earlier post, but the idea of the challenge is this: You are assigned an author (not a fandom, but you'll match them in one you volunteered to write). You go through that author's fics, and choose a story to rewrite/remix. It's like telling someone else's story a different way, often by changing POVs; in a way, it's taking someone else's story as a sort of "canon", and finding a new way to retell it. For example, last year, I took Angel Negra's fic "Q&A", which takes place after the Ninja Storm Rangers' first battle, flipped the POV to Cam, and turned it into a fic about his resentment about being left out, again. In other words, I essentially wrote a missing scene to someone else's fic. You can get a lot more creative than that, but it was my first remix and I wasn't feeling experimental. If you enjoy playing with universes, this is a good challenge for you, but if you're very touchy about people playing with your fics, it isn't.
ETA: Signed up. Qualifying fandom Power Rangers, offered to write in PR, Doctor Who (1963), X-Men (Movieverse). I linked to
estinose for my archive, with links to other places to find my fic for the curious reader.
