So, at the end of part 3 of "Scent of Roses" Gai suddenly decided his teammates were evil and he needed to get away from them and get help.
I think I know who's going to set him straight, but he has to get there first. And that's going to be tough. He's on the Galleon for the entire story so far, and Marvelous might be concerned enough that he might restrict his amnesiac crew member to ship. On the other hand, it might be useful to have Gai with them on this latest trip so he can figure out the clue.
The problem is that there's no way in hell his teammates are going to let him out of their sight. For one thing, he is their best way of figuring out what the clue means. For another, they don't know what happened to him, so it's a good idea to keep him close and the team together. In my head, Gai tried just trailing off from the group by letting them go ahead, but Joe caught him by the elbow and kept him with them until Gai got the idea that it wasn't going to work (at which point he returned to where he'd been.) I'm thinking he's going to need a big enough distraction to need a distraction. (And no, brain, Basco is not it, Gai might want to join his friends in battle just by instinct and desire.)
Did I mention that this seems to be in the "All The Lullabies" ("Only A Pirate's Dreams") universe? (Which means I need to fix Gai's honorifics and add it and add another fic to AO3.)
*goes and chases down brain*
