So far they've shown off the intro quests for four (ETA: now eight) different Lives (classes):
1. Woodcutter (English)
2. Alchemist (German)
3. Miner (Traditional Chinese script)
4. Mercenary (Simplified Chinese script)
5. Chef (Korean)
6. Paladin (French)
7. Carpenter (Spanish)
8. Tailor (Italian)

I think they're due to show 1-2 more (we have at least Italian left, don't know if they'll also do Japanese; I imagine Italian will be the new Artist Life due to multiple well-known Italian artists), and I'll update this as they pop up. They seem to be doing 1-2 a week.

ETA: Don't know if they're going to show any more Lives since the only life left is Japanese, which a lot of material has come out for (as Level-5 is Japanese).

Also a 4-minute showcase of the quick Life-change video, which seems to indicate you need to go to the guild only when you're starting a new Life? ETA: At least two more videos so far in the same vein! We've had one that did the Angler-Farmer-Cook switch to gather ingredients for and then cook a dish, and a "kawaii" (cute) video where a very feminine character does some mining for a project (because she's a bit short on... looks like minty ore?) and then to artist to make a decoration for her house. And then goes to tackle the Napdragon as a wizard/magician for... cuteness? Of course she doesn't want to dirty her wizard/magician robes....

(ETA from rewatching that last: it looks like you have different levels from each Life? The kawaii Miner-Artist-Magician is at level 20 for Miner and Artist, but a level 30 for Magician....)

In the 3DS game, you could use the basic functions of a Life without being in that Life (I admit that when I'm in Wizard/Magician, I tend to whittle down bosses with a great-sword from the Mercenary Life then use a wand) - you just missed certain advanced moves, some class-specific higher level tools (for example, the Fashionista's Needle could only be equipped when you were actually in the Tailor's Life), and the class stat boosts.

But in the video released today, a woodcutter seemed to insta-change into a carpenter? Interesting!

(I want to see - especially with the combat and gathering/crafting quick swap - how they handle armor. In the original game, my characters tended to be under-armored because I couldn't bother with switching to heavier armor when I was spending half my time being in crafting and gathering classes, which do not lend themselves to stronger armor. ETA: Looks like armor swaps with the class!)

ETA: There are some small amount of voice lines - for example, the greeting the guild lady gives you. However, this does not seem to have been voiced in all languages. Western languages get the English-language lines, Eastern languages get the Japanese-language lines.

Obviously I'll update as things go along!

Woodcutter: The first quest is extremely similar (please cut down oak trees), and there is some singing involved. The 2nd quest is similar to the 3DS one, except instead of hunting for an Elder Oak log, you're looking for a unique Palm log. Also, the apprentice this time is the one with anxiety/self-esteem issues (unlike poor HeyHo) and is the one to talk to the Forest Goddess (who has dialogue but does not introduce herself or accompany you, just tells you where to find said Palm log).

Alchemist: Like the Woodcutter, the first quest is pretty much the same: you need to make a basic HP potion, go see the other apprentice for the stuff. The 2nd quest echoes the 3ds one with some minor story differences: you need to make a charm for a nervous student that needs to pass an exam (instead of an unlucky shop owner), and the Life Master in the story explains - after the exam - that the charm is useless, just a placebo. Honestly, I like this guy much more than either Flamel or Professor Snooze, one of which annoyed me and the other kind of squicked me in the intro quest for this Life.

Miner: Just from watching this one without understanding 99% of the language, I can tell the tasks themselves are very similar to the 3DS version: Mine copper, and then mine a topaz. There's no entire story about your fellow miner deciding abruptly to another city (much less one you can't access until much later in the game) as far as I can tell, just maybe a priestess needing a precious gem?

Mercenary: I'm waiting for a (full) translation on this one. The general gist of the intro quest is the same - learn how to fight monsters. The monsters are different (3DS: Carrotty and Razerbeak, FLi: Tortortoise(?) and the new corn monsters that join the Carroty and the Radishy/Carrottella and Radishella lines). Some new techniques such as dodging and rolling as well.

Cook/Chef: Obviously different plot (like all the other Lives) for the intro quest, but quite similar to the 3ds. The initial challenge is to make Boiled Eggs (unlike the Carrot Soup of the 3ds version), and you have to talk to someone to get eggs (it looks like you can also pick up eggs while you're right there, but of course you have to talk to someone in this quest). The second is that the royal palace wants a Famous Fluffy Omelet (or equivalent) so you have to go get the ingredients to get that - but of course just like the 3ds game, the usual vendor doesn't carry tomatoes and you get it from a random passerby who may or may not be a chef. You get the recipe (and some eggs) from the Life Master before you cook. Interestingly, the Fantasy Life i version of this omelet does not require cows' milk!

Paladin: I had to go review the 3DS Paladin intro quest via someone else's video because it was so darn forgettable (you hit a training dummy, talk to a couple of Paladins, and then defeat some bandits). The new version is somewhat better - you're sent down to see what the issue is at (I think) the local market, who ask you to help a traveling merchant that is beset by wolves. Your first round of combat is two of the wolves (making a return from the first game) and then two wolves and a coyote (which is labeled as "chief of bandits" if I'm translating the French correctly, but that's very much a coyote).

Carpenter: Again very similar to the 3DS intro quest for the Carpenter, except this Life Master seems more like Vulcan (the Blacksmith Life Master in the 3DS version) than Woody (the less-than-self-assured Life Master for carpentry in the 3DS version). Of course the first task is to make an oak beam (just like the 3DS game), which now requires 3 oak logs? Okay. 3DS version just required 2. The 2nd quest is to make a super-comfy sofa for a cat (also a scratching post, this is a cat), where you need to get some materials from the tailor's guild. No talking beavers involved.

Tailor: Safe to say similar but not completely like the Tailor intro quest on the 3DS (similar to all the other crafting Lives). You're started on woven-straw fabric (instead of the 3DS dandelion cotton) and then get to make a nice soft cloak (instead of the fluffy top of the 3DS game) with the woven-straw fabric + wool (that you have to talk to someone to get the sheep's fleece and then another someone to make the wool for you - at least it's not some random thing that you'll never see for the rest of the game). I was curious on how they'd handle this Life's mini-game for crafting because the 3DS version is admittedly weird (but I love it anyway), it appears that they kept the quirky "two stations with the same input" but they're doing a hold-down and two sets of rapid presses this time around. We'll see if this turns out to be my favorite Life in the game (or at least my favorite crafting life; Mercenary and Miner are my faves for the 3ds combat and gathering Lives).

I brought my steam deck with me when we went on a weekend trip, used my hot spot to activate the game and basically have not stopped playing since. (11.5 hours since it launched) Wifey is a saint for putting up with me.
