I'm going to pretty these up when I get home, but here's a preview to the nonfic section of Dots, specifically some story notes on various fics.
Alternate Universes (Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger/Power Rangers Ninja Storm)
Title source: SInce Ninja Storm uses footage from Hurricanger, they are in some ways alternate universes.
Story note(s): This is abandoned, but the idea was a typical "character from a Power Rangers team ends up in a Sentai universe". Except I didn't know that Tori read Japanese.
Better to Ask Forgiveness (Hana Yori Dango)
Title source: "Better to ask forgiveness than permission".
Story note(s): I tend to ship Rui/Tsukushi rather than Tsukasa/Tsukushi, and when a fellow Rui/Tsukushi shipper in Yuletide asked for bittersweet fic, I wrote this for Madness 2010. I just can't see Tsukasa taking well to Rui "getting his girl". This splits off from Drama canon at the point where Tsukasa begs Rui to give Tsukushi up; in canon Rui steps aside for his friend, but in this one, he puts his foot down and stops regretting giving up. And pays the price.
Beyond Growing, Beyond Dividing (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri)
Title source: The fact that Planet is having to change due to its new inhabitants.
Story note(s): I've written crackfic that is less weird than this one. It's from the POV from a fairly sentient planet (called Planet, of course) with a totally alien mindset, written for Yuletide Madness 2010. It was a really, really hard fic to write as I got headaches trying to write its viewpoint (and it showed - the recipient was a bit confused, which is understandable because it was not my most coherent work ever).
Burden of a Cradle (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger)
Title source: The idea that Gai and Ahim have to figure out how to shift to being parents.
Story note(s): This as-yet incomplete fic is from one of those prompt challenges, and comes from the simple premise of "how would Gai and Ahim deal with having a kid on the Galleon?" It also deals with how Ahim's title and the surviving colony of Famille interact, and how things are for Gai and Ahim as they try to stay pirates instead of being forced to be what they don't want to be.
Byounin (Kamen Rider Kuuga)
Title source: The title means "sick person", which Godai is.
Story note(s): I will forever remember this fic as the one where Ichijou tries to keep Godai from going out and straining himself after something hits him. It doesn't work out well, of course, Godai being Godai, but it's one of my favorites because of poor, normal Ichijou just trying his best to keep clever Godai in one place.
The Curse All Bear (Earth: Final Conflict/Highlander: The Raven)
Title Source: Actually refers to two things: the curse/blessing of Immortality, and the idea that good guys tend to die young.
Story note(s): Since Nick Wolfe was a detective with fairly strong morals, and Will Boone was the same way, I figured it was a natural thing for Nick to work under Boone pre-E:FC. This fic suffers from the "start flashback/end flashback" coding I've never fixed, since the story is framed around events happening at the end of season 1 of E:FC.
Diners (Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, with guests)
Title Source: Suke-san's musings about his diners.
Story note(s): I have it labeled as Abaranger with guests because it mentions a bunch of other series, from Dekaranger, Magiranger, Boukenger, and Gekiranger and Hurricanger. I didn't want to list six series when it was mostly Aba! It's a fun little fic written for my yearly ficspam about these people and how they interacted sometimes.
Dissemblement (Earth: Final Conflict)
Title Source: "Dissemble" means to conceal one's feelings/intentions; "Dissemblement" is an act of dissembling. Renee has to do a lot of dissembling as a member of the Liberation dealing with the Taelons.
Story note(s): Someone on Philosophy Sphere asked for a Sandoval/Renee romance (along with a few other things). I wrote this, my only Renee/Sandoval piece (I ship Sandoval/DeeDee) from Renee's POV. I think it's my only E:FC fic on Fanfiction.net, which is due to be taken off there at some point, i just haven't gotten around to it.
The Expense of Adventuring (Final Fantasy I)
Title Source: What the character in question is grumbling about.
Story note(s): My only Final Fantasy I piece came out of my frustration of how much money things cost in-game. Now, of course, Final Fantasy I has no canon character names, and even in Dissidia the hero is represented as "Warrior of Light". So I had to borrow character names from the game to write the fic. (I was using Marv, Luka, Ahim, and Doc as character names, and I didn't want to confused my regular readers.)
Fancies Betrayed (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger)
TItle Source: The fact that this was not the team AU!Gai expected.
Story note(s): This was originally posted on Dreamwidth as an untitled fic, but for the archive I gave it a title. It's a look on how Gai might have been had he been a slightly less exciteable, more serious sentai fan, instead of the one we got, and how he might have dealt with not wanting to be on his team. I'd love to expand it someday, but I have a lot of unfinished fic to finish first.
Fixing One's Mistakes (Earth: Final Conflict)
Title Source: The Kimeras' desire to save humanity from their mistakes.
Story note(s): I love the concept of the Kimera, and dealt with them a lot. This was what would have happened if the Kimera had survived their mistake and come to Earth first to save us from the Taelons. It features some of my OC Kimera and a very, very awkward Ha'gel. Not my best fic ever, but still a decent AU.
Ghostly Mouth to Solid Ear (Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger/Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, discussing Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger)
Title Source: Nakadai Mikoto has a secret to tell, thus the implication of whispering. The rest of it has to deal with his state.
Story note(s): I've shipped Mikoto/Umeko for a while, and so it's no surprise when I saw episode 19 of Gokaiger that he'd want to tease Umeko with the news. So, this fic is really a Abaranger vs Dekaranger piece that discusses events in a third series.
Good People Keep You Young (The Sweet Librarian Remix) (RH+)
Title Source: What the viewpoint character is told.
Story note(s): My very first RH+ fic (and so far, my only one) was a five things fic about Kiyoi and his friendship with this librarian. The original fic was about Kiyoi's visits to the library, and I switched POVs to the librarian in question, five times where she gave Kiyoi books and one time where he gave her a bunch of them. It gave me a chance to have fun with some Esperanto without someone immediately recognizing that the one AO3 Esperanto writer wrote it.
Hikari Saseba (Chaotic Butterfly)
Title Source: A line from "Roots of the King"
Story note(s): I am always wary about writing book fandoms, but I knew Mousapelli was cool with fanfic so I happily accepted a pinch hit for this fandom, for an author who'd written me a Taiga/Wataru the year before (thus the choice of title). I love Tsukioka and I especially love Pantheon, and so I wrote this nice gen fic set late in the series.
If Only in Time (Digimon Tamers)
Title source: The character's thoughts
Story note(s): My only Digimon story is set late in the series, and deals with the POV character's worries. While I liked most of the characters, he really stood out to me as a strong character as he slowly turns from bad guy to reluctant good guy who wants to save the world.
In The Polite Way (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger)
Title Source: Ahim's words about how she dealt with Gai's aunt.
Story notes: This is part of "All the Lullabies", which is a series of fics about what Gai's aunt (who has PTSD) tries to save him in a rather reprehensible, extreme way. What I wanted to emphasize was how the team deals with a hurt teammate, how they come together in their own way to protect themselves and their own - from Ahim's little talk to Marvelous' tendency in my fandom to platonically sleep with his crew.
Is Law (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger)
Title source: "On board ship, a captain's word is law."
Story note(s): As excitable as Gai is, and given the imagine spot in his first episode, I can easily see him taking a little bit to realize that he can't change his team; he's the one who needs to change. And of course, Marvelous is tempermental enough to get pissed off. I'm not sure if he'd really punch a crew member, but he does in this story. Thankfully Gai does figure things out.
It's The Right Choice (X-Men Movieverse)
Title Source: Rogue's decision
Story note(s): I somehow ended up writing a fic set in X-men movieverse, about Rogue's decision. I guess I wanted to write a drabble, but that's all I remember.
The Last Chance to Dance (Earth: Final Conflict)
Title Source: The fact that Ha'gel has such a limited time to get his goals done.
Story note(s): This is an episode POV, Ha'gel's in fact. I like him, I like writing him, and I know what he did was kind of reprehensible. That being said, I think I did a good job considering he's a desperate alien (though far easier to write than a sentient planet....)
Loki and the Cup of Jonar (Norse Myth)
Title Source: It sounded like a classic story, so I went with it.
Story note(s): I wrote this for athersgeo for Yuletide Madness, and boy, I have no clue why my brain insisted on poetry. But it did! And so we get me trying to write a new Norse Myth where I'd never have thought of doing it a few years before. Oh, and I enjoyed rereading my mythology.
Lying Naked (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger)
Title source: It's what Gai is doing during the fic. Also a play in the word "Lying" as in telling a falsehood.
Story note(s): I think a lot of people missed this when I initially posted it as it was an ETA to a post. It's a response to several other fics about the sex life/lives of the Gokaigers, and how Gai, if uncomfortable with the idea of having sex with other guys would get pulled into a group orgy. (Thus the warning for dubcon on this fic, since Gai really doesn't consent to the whole thing, he just gets pulled in and doesn't think he can refuse at the moment.) It's relatively SFW because it's the aftermath of the whole thing, but it wasn't the funnest thing to write, ever.
