Let's all go to the fair....
Aug. 20th, 2005 04:42 pmMom and I went to the fair today, because it's probably going to be the last time we go to the fair together before she moves.
As per our custom, we stopped at the Expo buildings, but before we went in for the exhibits, we sat for a while and listened to the poet laureates for our state and city. I don't know what to make of them, but it was good to hear poetry again. Then we saw the creative arts and the fine arts exhibitions, along with one on surfing that I didn't get much out of.
Our next stop was the counties exhibition, where some 37 or so of our counties had sent exhibitions. I had no idea how many wine-producing counties we had! (Tons. I swear.) Mom and I had bananas on a stick to snack on about midway through the exhibition. Also in the exhibition area were one of our local news stations, an ebay display, a history of Wells Fargo and banking, and a Star Wars exhibition that was very, very popular.
( I just had to take this picture of one of the county exhibits )
After refuling ourselves, we also checked out the horticulture exhibit, the shark exhibit, the sand sculpture exhibit, and a few other things. We then took our yearly trip on the monorail (half in hopes of finding were we parked the car), finally stumbling through the midway to find one of the gates.
On top of that, I registered for the JLPT 4 exam, and am planning to tie it in to a small vacation, since the test site is two hours away from where I live, and I need a vacation.
Tomorrow is the staff picnic for my old call center, and I'm going to it, because I said I was going to.
