According to the very messy auto-translate on his Japanese Wikipedia article (I think), his son was very into Kamen Rider, and was thrilled to have his dad on a show - albeit not too thrilled to have dad play a bad guy! (I wouldn't be surprised if that anecdote came from this article.)
ETA: I forgot to add that he was Isaka in Kamen Rider Blade. Sorry about the confusion.
