Meow Palace: Forbidden City
May. 3rd, 2026 10:11 amI have a bad habit of starting guides and not finishing them, mostly due to people whose full-time gigs are playing video games and writing guides beating me to the punch!
However, I'm determined to complete one for Meow Palace: Forbidden City. It's a primarily Chinese title with some... interesting... choices of English translation, some bugs and weird choices for readings on some proper names but it's got a good heart. It's one of a zillion bottom-of-desktop idles, but what makes it stand out is that it is essentially a tour of the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. The idle part is learning "skills" related to the running of the Forbidden City from NPC mentors (who are all cats; so are you).
Which means, of course, that it's not popular enough for someone whose gig is to document "popular" games to cover it. So I'm stepping in to do just that!
I published it as a public (web) Google Doc. It's called "The New Cat's Guide to Meow Palace: Forbidden City", and right now it covers things that I personally thought needed a bit better explanation (some are covered in tutorials, but not well), as well as an introduction to NPC mentors and some things that might make gameplay easier when you're in their sections. Right now, that officially includes Sheriff, Xiao Hei, and Lu Ban, but because I goofed up the game title in both the file name and the title, readers also got a sneak peek (which is actually most of the text for) Dede. It's updating every 5 minutes from the actual Google Doc, so I'm actually working on changes elsewhere - I'm actually currently adding clarifications to the general info section, as well as finishing out Dede and adding Long Legs (and possibly Tutu), intention is to post that bit on the 15th or 16th of May as version 1.1.
