Hold So Firmly On, part 1 (Sekirei)

You know that Suechallenge-style self-insert muse I was grumbling about? I'm tossing her up here. Sekirei itself is NSFW, but the canon characters are not going to be indulging in much NSFW stuff in this fic, so it's pretty much PG (MPAA)/G (AO3) at the moment.
Summary: Autumn Rodgers has issues with the whole Sekirei thing, even if it's not as malevolent as it could have been. Of course she's going to end up as an Ashikabi, whether she likes it or not.

Part 1
Autumn turned towards her friend as the passengers on the plane started to disembark. It had been a long trip to the city of Tokyo - Autumn was so glad that the rename proposed by MBI hadn't gone through, since she was so used to the older city name. "I guess we're here." She carefully got up, trying not to hit her head on the overhead compartments.
"Yeah." Meg gave her a grin, though she didn't try to get up. "That's what the Captain said."
"I can't wait to get to a bathroom that doesn't move. After customs, of course." Autumn shook her head. "Yes, I know that means I will be holding it for a long, long time!" She'd traveled extensively overseas, though this trip was the first one where she was flying west on the way there.
She carefully pulled her carryon and thumped it into her seat next to her purse, getting Meg's shortly after. She hoped that when they got out of customs, there was something that she could eat and didn't contain soy sauce. She wouldn't mind the soy sauce so much if she hadn't been profoundly allergic to the wheat additive in it.
"Your problem." Meg was amused. They watched people sort themselves into the aisles in order, and scooted into the line when it was their turn. Slowly, the passengers filed out into the international terminal towards passport control and customs. "Maybe you'll meet a nice, cute Japanese person and take them home with you."
Autumn couldn't help but shudder. "Don't remind me. I nearly didn't go through with this trip because of the Sekirei issue." She still didn't know what to make of the humanlike aliens, but she did find the whole "bonding to a human master" part disgusting. At least it could have been worse - if it had not been for an inside takeover, said aliens would have been stuck in some kind of game where they'd duel each other to the death.
They were sentient beings, not Pocket Monsters, and Autumn was glad that they were at least able to live normally, even if the slave thing stuck in her craw.
It had been thoroughly discussed in her church's social action group, whether they should do something about it or just consider boycotting Japan. But after examination, there was little they could do about it - there was some weird thing about a Sekirei's health possibly deteriorating after being unbonded for a long time that might have made it loathsome, but unfortunately necessary.
She didn't have to worry about ending up with a Sekirei partner herself because she was very much Caucasian, with ancestry all over Northern Europe and a tiny bit of the Middle East. She didn't have a drop of Japanese blood as far as she knew, so it wasn't something she'd have to deal with. Sure, there were foreign Ashikabis, as the bonded partners were called, but she was sure all of them had a touch of Japanese blood. It wasn't exactly something that had spread much past Japan, especially with Japan's isolationist culture. She was perfectly ordinary, something that made getting through customs and onto the train fairly easy, even though passport control had made all of them have a blood test to find something untranslatable.
"We should so totally go to a host club!" Meg squealed as they walked through the neighborhood to the room they were renting. "Look, you know you want to."
"Um, no." Autumn replied, looking resolutely forward. She had a notoriously bad time with the house numbering system used in Japan and was concentrating on trying to not miss where they were going. Besides, she could think of better things she could be doing than drinking herself silly with men she couldn't even understand. "Remember, can't drink alcohol."
"Won't drink alcohol, you mean." Meg shook her head. "Just because your doctor said no...."
"Drinking isn't a good idea anyway." Autumn tried not to look at the map too much. Just because she and Meg stuck out like sore thumbs even in Tokyo didn't mean she wanted to make things worse by acting totally like a tourist.
"Autumn Rodgers, you are so a total teetotaler. Are we there yet?"
"Not yet. And I come by it honestly - great grandma worked on getting Prohibition passed." She was still watching the signs. "You knew at the start that I wanted to go and see all the historic stuff."
"And we compromised and said we'd do something fun as well." Meg put her hands on her hips, or tried to, given she was handling a carryon and luggage.
"I don't mind a butler cafe, or a cosplay cafe. Or a cat cafe. Just I don't like to get drunk." Autumn finally spotted where they were going. "We're here!"
