Since the invasion starts with a trickle, I can see Chiyo having some long-term friends who recognize her flightiness as a sign that something is wrong. Maybe they interpret it as anxiety or some other developing mental illness and try to be supportive somehow. But she could definitely lose friends, and she would probably have issues making new ones.
I could see her hating it for giving her something else to worry about. And her family's relative silence about it could reinforce that it's something really horrible.
Even if she got away safely, the poor girl would probably be upset and/or panicked, with a friend who is equally freaked out.
