... And I don't mean the 'cleanup' action in Iraq.

A lot of this won't mean much to most folk, but there are a lot of DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks going on against DBLs. DBLs are what quite a few network admins use to keep control of the rampaging problem of spam.

Today or yesterday, one of those lists went down permanently. And its maintainer retired from the antispam business.

And how did those DDOS attacks happen? Guess what? Trojaned machines. People too lazy to keep up their anti-virus programs and getting the latest worms. Through those machines, invaders can launch spam campaigns or do a DDOS attack.

A large amount of those machines, if not all of them, run Micro$oft software. Gee... I own a Windows box and *I* know better than to put it on the internet nowadays. There's a reason I use a Mac, and it's not just because of the pretty interface.

On related news, some idiot court judge has set back the DNC list. Whoopee. Someone should ream him or her and remind him or her of how much we all *so* much enjoy telemarketer calls.

If it makes you feel any better...

Seems like West's boneheaded decision was based on a technicality, and Congress doesn't have to do much to bring the list back: http://www.forbes.com/home_europe/2003/09/25/cx_da_0925topnews.html

Which is pretty likely, since it appears that EVERYONE except telemarketers is condemning his decision. :)
