More fic shortly, but a quick rant first.
Jul. 15th, 2010 07:59 pmThis has to do with the group calling itself “The Concerned Citizens of the United States”, and in particular, any State Employees of Utah belonging to same.
Dear State Employees who are members of the aforementioned group:
I hope you are aware of privacy law. You know, the laws that concern disclosure of peoples’ data? I don’t know about Utah, but as a State Employee of another state, I know that it’s against the law to disclose peoples’ data. It sounds like Utah is the same. And let’s not even start about Federal laws about data access.
Like you, I am upset by people taking advantage of the system. In fact, I spend my days dealing with people who take advantage of the system. Am I pissed off? Yes. Do I think people should immigrate legally? Yes.
But we are State Employees. No matter how much the people of our state hate us, or think us useless, we are trusted by them and our employer to do our jobs and not betray the trust invested in us.
When we are given access to state and federal databases and information, we do it to keep our states running. We use them to administer the programs we are paid to administrate, we use them to do our jobs. We do not use them to further our causes. Yes, I understand the temptation. Yes, we are all human. But we are State Employees and we cannot betray that trust.
So, I sincerely hope that you are ashamed of yourselves. I hope that you do find out the penalties for what the Feds call “UNAX”. Because, as a State Employee, I hold you, as I hold myself, to the high standards of someone who works for the Government.
Edited to correct name of group.
