My first fic for PR:SPD. I should be going to bed, not channelling muses.

He's not as bright as everybody thinks.

Bridge knows he's special - has been special - all his life. He knows what other people don't know. He sees what other people don't see.

He's gained a sense of humor about it all. He's had to. Not everybody appreciates someone who can see as clearly as he can - he's learned that the tough way.

So he learns to joke, keep people from being defensive, keep them from worrying what the young man is going to peek into next.

It doesn't make him bright. It doesn't make him stupid. At the SPD academy, his powers make him average.

He likes being average. It makes him smile. A little stupid, sometimes. But the better people feel, the more comfortable, the better his life is. The more he can help. The more he can be him. Just an average guy.

Bridge smiles.
