Discovering the Sun update
Jul. 23rd, 2007 09:46 pmChapter 7 part 4 of "Discovering the Sun" should be showing up on
estinano shortly. In addition, I'm hoping to compile parts 1-3 and post them up to Inkwell. And I've got a side fic that's annoying the heck out of me. I expect to have fic the last two done within the next 24 hours or so.
Well, Gatack and Kagami have finally met. It only took forever....
I couldn't figure out, as I mentioned last note, on how to handle Kagami and Gatack, given the reluctance I'd established when he was TheBee. I'd also like to think that Kagami, rash though he is, does have brains. In this part, Kagami tells Misaki and Tadokoro about his disobeying orders, and Mishima force-introduces him to Gatack.
I tried not to make this a rerun of "Unwanted Wings" (for those familiar with that WIP). Kagami does have a reason to accept Gatack, or at least a reason to let Gatack shred him to bits. He's only saved by a bit of luck from being bonded to Gatack, and he's far too confident that Gatack won't choose him.
One of the difficulties of writing this chapter (other than the fact that I got tired of typing "father's secretary" every time Kagami was mentioning Mishima) was writing Gatack beating Kagami up. I'm not very good at fight scenes, and it didn't help that Gatack beating Kagami up was not shown in the series; primarily, it was the sound of Gatack beating Kagami up while Misaki worried outside. Plus, Gatack was confused as heck. Kagami felt and didn't feel like Gatack's host, and it was trying to scrape him to figure out if he was its intended host or not. (I did retain the brand/sensors idea from "Unwanted Wings", which is what's partially interfering with Gatack's recognition of Kagami.) I did feel very sorry for having Gatack ram him in a sensitive spot.
He should wake up in the next scene. He doesn't realize it, but his connection to Gatack is being established, enough that it should start to recognize him as host. (And the Native Worms will also be trying to fix the problem, including Kagami's Native Worm doctor.)
I have a feeling that we'll be departing from the canon series after this chapter. I'll be interested in seeing where it's going. In the meantime, there's a Negishi and Tadokoro side scene that's dying to be written, where Tadokoro gets to tell Negishi "I told you so".
