I fail at getting 100 words or less on this (I wrote 132). But I wrote it anyway, for

Trip was watching the clock downstairs at the clock tower, wishing that his downstairs receptionist shift would end. It wasn't that he didn't like doing it, but at the moment, his thoughts were full of electronic circuits and other things.

He was aware of someone coming down the stairs, and peeked to see who it was. "Oh, hi Katie," he said, feeling foolish. If he'd been in battle, he'd have been in trouble. Big trouble.

"Hi, Trip," Katie said, smiling. He wondered what the good news had been, or why she was smiling. To his astonishment, he was pulled forward against the counter, his lips meeting Katie's, and he blinked in astonishment as she leaned back. "Merry Christmas, Trip," she said, and Trip was left speechless as she waltzed out the door.
