Slime Rancher
Nov. 8th, 2017 03:32 pmI got this because I saw the adorable slimes on playthroughs and figured "what the heck, I'll get this!" - I don't regret it so far.
The idea is that you are a young rancher named Beatrix LeBeau, who left her home to travel in stasis for a year to this remote alien planet. The native life forms are slimes, bouncing monsters that either bounce around or try to attack you. You have only a vacuum (which kind of looks like a gun) to either suck in plorts (basically, slime... well, poo), food, or slimes. If you pick up plorts and turn them in, you get money.
(There are three modes, by the way. Adventure, which is the regular game, Casual, which takes out one of the more common disasters, and a 5-day get-all-the-money-you-can make mode.)
There are 8 spaces on your ranch that you can dedicate to certain things. You can create a place to farm fruits and veggies - or at least clone them. You can create a coop for chickens, and there are 3 varieties of them. You can also create a place to hold your slimes, which is very good if you have certain varieties of them that can accidentally harm you.
The first slimes that appear are pink slimes, but as you go along you also can easily get phosphor (night only), tabby, and rock slimes. A slime can turn into a hybrid called a largo by eating another slime's plorts, and if a largo eats a third kind's plort, it turns into a tarr, which are agressive, untamable, and all around bad to have happen. (Make sure you have a pond unless you're in casual mode, where tarrs do not happen.)
Right now I've got a set of tabby rock largos bouncing around, as well as a set of tabby phosphor largos. I had pink tabby largos, but I shoo'd them off to get pure tabby slimes. I might have to do something, though, as I need them not in the same space as the rock chickens, which they will eat very quickly. (I've got them loose because they only eat meat, and I keep a chicken coop going just for them and toss the excess chickens out every day or so.)
I wish there was a way to keep the tabbies out of my rock chicken coops. The other chickens seem to be less exciting to them. The online suggestions are to free-range the tabbies away from your chickens, which makes sense.
Anyway, apparently there are a bunch more slimes to find, so I'm going to keep going!

Also, I wrote fic! Of course.

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Slime Rancher (Video Game)
Rating: General Audiences

Characters: Beatrix LeBeau (Slime Rancher)
Summary:
Basically me-as-Beatrix, figuring this whole ranching thing out. Beatrix doesn't have any background (apart from her friend Casey's letters), so I made her the descendant of the Farmer and Maru from Stardew Valley. (I know same-sex marriages in the game adopt, but I'm figuring that there's some way in that universe that two women can have kids together.)
