So, just a quick look at My Time at Sandrock, the sequel (kind of) to My Time at Portia. I started one save to make sure it worked under Linux/my Steam Deck (it's one of those games that actually does fare better under the Deck than my slightly aging not-meant-for-games laptop, actually) and then got frustrated and started again.

* It's set in the same timeframe as My Time at Portia, but it's set in Sandrock, which is the next town over from Portia. Yes, it's the same Sandrock as mentioned in some missions in the original game.
* There's a small amount of crossover besides that; one Sandrock character makes a cameo appearance in the original game (kind of as a promotion, in one of the very last patches and very late game) and one Portia character is supposed to pop up in Sandrock.
* Some of the mechanics are different; for example, if you don't have water, your machines aren't going to work even if you have fuel. I haven't gotten far enough in the game to see how you do power furnaces.
* You can now save at any point in the game instead of waiting for the next day.
* Portia players may get a bit frustrated at the outset. In Portia, your wood piles and loose stone tended to sparkle; Sandrock is a lot less hand-holdy. In my first aborted attempt it took me 3 days to finish the second builder test mission because of the sheer complexity of what I was being asked to do and then I got distracted by a second day tour that um... I'm not liking Jasmine very much at this moment, thanks.
ETA: Apparently the Church of the Light is a bit more cooperative with the Research Center than it was in the first game. While they aren't buddy buddy (apparently the Church of the Light people still don't like pre-Darkness tech), they are willing to work with the Research Center out of necessity so that Sandrock survives.
