Two new game acquisitions
May. 21st, 2023 09:41 amI picked up Spiritfarer a couple of weeks ago and Coral Island last week (it was on sale and I'm a sucker for early access games). Impressions so far:
Spiritfarer does have the same general theme as Cozy Grove, but it's far more a management game than Cozy Grove is. The people you are ferrying get hungry and there are some things they won't eat (despite one character saying "I'll eat everything!"). You have to fish, farm, and cook, so if keeping people happy and fed is not your thing then Spiritfarer is not for you. On the other hand, the fishing mechanics remind me a lot of Fantasy Life's fishing minigame, and I really like all the minigames I've come across.
Coral Island: Very much a 3D Stardew Valley with some extra things like underwater farming. Unfortunately, for some stupid reason this game requires a dedicated graphics card. Most people who play this genre do not have dedicated graphics cards. I can play thanks to my Steam Deck, but I can't play on my desktop (which is also Linux) unless I do it via Steam Link. I'm in about day 2 and having fun, though. I guess for the moment if I want to do underwater farming I think Re:Legend has that too.
(Edited because my brain thought it would be fun to substitute the world "discrete" for "dedicated".)
