estirose: Omura leaning against rocks. Text come back to me (Omura Come Back - KR Kiva)

Well, I had some time to kill, and I'd had the foresight to capture my hitcounts on AO3 at the end of September, so here's some observations about fic counts for October for the two sites.

AO3 top fics for October 2011. I calculated these by saving the hit counts (which is very awkward) on AO3 at the end of September, and then recorded the hits from the end of October. The tricky part being that I had to hand-count/calculate hit count differences for 147 fics.

1. Lying Naked (Gokaiger) (46 hits)
2. Scent of Roses in December (Gokaiger) (45 hits)
3. Versal & Marginalia (Mulan) (32 hits)
4. Useless Things (Kiva) (25 hits)
5. Doomed, The Minion (Girl Genius) (21 hits) (tie)
5. Better to Ask Forgiveness (Hana Yori Dango Jdrama) (21 hits) (tie)
7. Quite Up To Normal (Gokaiger) (20 hits)
8. Buying Shirts (RPM) (19 hits)
9. Choosing This Life (Gokaiger) (18 hits)
10. In The Polite Way (Gokaiger) (17 hits) (tie)
10. Lay Your Body Down (Bleeding Violet) (17 hits) (tie)
10. A Most Content Husband (Gokusen Jdrama) (17 hits) (tie)

So of the 12 (because 10 was a three-way tie), five were Gokaiger, of which four were part of "All The Lullabies" (aka the storyline where Gai's aunt kidnaps him and the consequences thereof), and the fifth was "Lying Naked", which is pretty much SFW but has a dubcon warning for a reason. "Scent of Roses" is currently posting, and "Lying Naked" was new this month.

Of the others, "Versal and Marginalia" averaged about 1 hit/day (it's the most-popular fic on my archive, due to being a Yuletide Mulan fic). "Useless Things" is up there because I'm reposting it in preparation to finish it (I hope). I'm trying to post it without spamming people, which is kind of hard because it's 30 parts long. "Doomed, The Minion" is a Girl Genius fic (again, Yuletide), and I'm not sure why it's in there, but it is.

"Better to Ask Forgiveness" is still fairly popular for a HYD Yuletide Rui/Makino fic. "Buying Shirts" is part of the "Harder to be Brave" storyline, and I'm not sure why it made the top ten and the rest of the series didn't. "Lay Your Body Down (And Don't Let Go)" is the only existing fic, AFAIK, for the novel "Bleeding Violet", written because I really felt that Jadelennox would figure out that it was me if I wrote her another Starman (TV) fic. And "A Most Content Husband", as I mentioned earlier in my AO3 Top Ten post, is one of two Gokusen fics I've written, both Yuletide.

Of them, only "Useless Things" and "Lying Naked" aren't part of either series or written for Yuletide, which is interesting.

FFN top ten fics for the same time period. Note that AO3 and FFN calculate hits differently, so I'm calculating both by total hits and hits/chapter for this site, rounded.

1. The Scent of Roses in December (478/80 hits) (Gokaiger)
2. Losing Touch (264/44 hits) (Dino Thunder)
3. Inside Out (127/18 hits) (Wild Force)
4. The Unstuck Country (81/16 hits) (Kiva)
5. Blushing Bride (77/13 hits) (Wild Force)
6. Discovering the Sun (68/10 hits) (Kabuto)
7. Over the Borderline (66/8 hits) (Time Force)
8. The Dreamt-of Call (56/4 hits) (RPM)
8. Useless Things (56/11 hits) (Kiva)
10. Better to Ask Forgiveness (30/30 hits) (Hana Yori Dango Jdrama)

"Scent of Roses", "Better to Ask Forgiveness", and "Unstuck Country" repeat themselves in this list. Otherwise, the list's quite different; more PR-heavy than the AO3 list. (For those interested, "Building Family" came in at 28 hits, just below "Better to Ask Forgiveness". Most of these fics, with the exception of the Inside Out storyline, are on AO3, which may or may not say something about the popularity of these fics. There are things I don't crosspost (Versal and Marginalia is uncrossposted, and so are several of the other Yuletide fics, and notably, "Lying Naked" isn't either). Funnily enough, I wouldn't have crossposted "Scent of Roses" from FFN to AO3 if it hadn't turned out to be part of "All The Lullabies".
