I got my DVDs of the 1986 TV series Starman (which is my First Fandom). Now, for some reason, Sony's DVD-Rs - this is the video equivalent of Print-on-Demand - don't want to play nicely with Superdrives/Mac OS X Lion. (I suspect it's partially a problem with the Superdrive itself, because it does the same thing in Windows with the same drive; I got it to work with the external drive I keep around in Windows.) This is, for once, Not Sony's Fault.

I don't have a problem with paying money for readily-available items in formats I can use. I prefer them to be portable and transferable, but I'm willing to put up with a lot for certain things. Starman is one of them.

Apparently, they feel that the nice honest people need to see not only the standard red-screen FBI warning (also in French on a second screen), but two screens about how piracy is theft (for a grand total of four). These are not skippable, and they derail my enjoyment of the product. I don't know why in the freaking hell they think these things are effective nowadays.

News to the studios and that portion of the Federal Government: You're not turning me into a money-paying consumer by these things. Instead, I want to pirate more, because at least the things I get play on pretty much anything. Free is a bonus, but I want my videos on whatever device I can load them on and without the damn freaking stupid warnings.
