So, Paula is the good friend? Girlfriend? of Dr. Maxine, the main doctor at Abel. Apparently they were testing something that would regenerate cells, and something went bad with one patient, causing the entire zombie apocalypse. Basically, Paula is kind of Dr. K with a less dense vocabulary and a lot more crying.
