And my next project...

An ASUS eee 701 4G, the ancestor of my Transformer. It was in storage for several years at a relative's, but someone was kind enough to dig it out for me and send it back. Fortunately, it's a very early 701, since I preordered it just before it came out, which means the mini PCI Express slot is still intact. The first thing I did was install EasyPeasy, which is Ubuntu 10.04 with software tweaks for these models. Which is good, because the 7 in the name stands for 7 inch screen.
The next thing I'll do, once I have some time, is replace some of its hardware. This thing shipped with a 4GB SSD, which is horrible for anything but the default Xandros. A 32 GB PCIe SATA SSD is within my budget, and then eventually I'll see to upgrading the RAM to 1-2 GB, and replacing the battery with something that lasts more than an hour and a half or so. I plan to make it a lean, mean little notetaking and web development machine. The only limitation is a very slow cpu, but I've tested KompoZer, Dropbox, Zim Desktop Wiki, and XAMPP at various points, and it seems okay with running them. I can't update the machine until I get the SSD, because it takes up too much disk space. But still, for the first modern netbook, it's a nice little device!
