"I work alone," Barbariccia said, tossing her locks and glaring at Rubicante.
"And you were defeated alone," the elemental fiend of fire told her. "We can only defeat them by using the same tactics they use - which includes teamwork."
"I alsso fight alone," the elemental fiend of Earth, Scarmiglione, said.
"And you, Cagnazzo?" Rubicante asked. He focused on his opposite, without much hope. None of the other fiends were as wise and honorable as he; they all thought too much of themselves and less of the glory of their master.
"I don't like the idea," Cagnazzo said, "But you've got a point. They overwhelmed us by sheer power."
"And if we work together," Rubicante explained again, "We will ensure they will go no farther."
"Only if we can fight one after another," Barbariccia said. She looked over at the others. "I'm not fighting with any of you, but I see the point of wearing them down."
Or at least the others wearing them down, Rubicante thought in amusement. Whoever survived this assault from their foes would surely receive the Master's glory.
"I ssee this to be a good plan," Scarmiglone hissed. "And the master will truly revive us as he did before."
Rubicante doubted that, but he nodded. "Best that you go first, so that he can bring you back first."
"I will go next, then," Cagnazzo said. "I will defeat them, surely!"
Hiding a smirk, Rubicante made a motion with his hands. "And then Barbariccia, and then I shall be here if all of you fall." Which he was sure they would, but not before weakening their opponents so that Rubicante would have an easy victory. He preferred to have them at full strength, but he also wasn't going to sacrifice himself for the others.
A goblin scampered up and waved his arms. "Lords! The intruders are coming!"
"Then let us prepare," Rubicante said, with a gleam in his eye. And hiding, they waited for their enemies.
Victory would be sweet.
