A "missing scene" for "I Dream of Jeannie, 15 years later", taking place between the last two scenes. Which I haven't seen in 15+ years, but I scarily enough remember the gist of it.

Summary: T.J. has an important decision to make about his future.

T.J. stood forlornly with his mother. He wanted to ask what they were going to do now; surely she had a plan.

"We will think of something, T.J.," his mother said, though he swore there was a sigh interlaced with her words. "If nothing else, we will find housing with my kin while I make a new life for us."

He was going to start a new life, which would have been better if he hadn't been enjoying his last one. The one where he had a nice, boring life with his nice, boring parents.

And then his mother and aunt had turned out to be genies, and it turned out that he did, too. Sort of. Not anything useful, though, other than to get his mother out of her bottle.

He'd take anything just to go back to a normal, boring life again, even if it was just with his mother.

"So, we don't have to sleep in a bottle?" T.J. asked. He didn't know for sure how genies worked, but he didn't find the idea at all attractive.

"No." She was adamant about that, and drew herself up. She looked at him, and he wondered what she had in mind. "But you have to go to school."

"Well, yeah." He wasn't keen on it, but he knew that he should finish high school and go to college, because that's what everybody did. "We'll find me another school, and everything will go back to normal, Mom."

She looked at him more, and another sigh escaped her lips. "You should be going to Genie school. Because you are djinn."

"Not very much, though," T.J. pointed out. Dread was growing within him at the thought that he might be genie - djinn - as well. It was silly, but he wanted to be normal. He wanted to finish high school, go to college, meet a girl, get married, the whole thing. He'd just finished seeing what his mother's world had done to her, and he wasn't sure he wanted to be a part of that.

He hadn't had time to ask his mom about the downsides of the whole magic thing, but they seemed pretty nasty, even if you were able to wish up anything you - or your Master - wanted.

Yeah, he was familiar with the legends.

"I'll take you to Haji," his mom decided. Without asking him, though at least she seemed reluctant about it.

"Mom. I don't want to go to Genie school. You saw how much work it took for me to loosen the stopper! I'd flunk out." Flunking out of Genie school wouldn't be too bad, but who knew how many years it would take? Genies were pretty long-lived.

"T.J., there's no in-between. You'll make a fine djinn someday. It'll just take longer for your magic to show up." Maybe his mom was trying to convince herself more than she was trying to convince him.

T.J. the Djinn. It sounded like some children's show.

"At least you'll live many many years." It was as if she was trying to reassure him or something.

"I know, Mom, but...." He shook his head. "I'm not going to college, am I?"

"No," his Mom said. "Only if Haji doesn't think you're djinn...."

It was something to hope for, though not much. On the other hand, he'd always have a job, of sorts. Maybe he could stock his bottle with books or something to keep sane. Or he'd find out how to keep sane, somehow.

T.J. tried telling himself it could be worse. His father could be dead. Of course, as far as the timeline was concerned, his father never had a wife or kids. So it kind of sucked.

Maybe this was for the best. Maybe if he learned how to be a djinn, it would hurt less. He could leave his old life behind, completely.

His mother hugged him. "It will get better and easier, T.J., I promise."

She wanted to comfort him, and he let himself be comforted. His life sucked, not much he could do but make it suck less.

"I guess so," he said. "I guess I am a djinn, after all."

His mom hugged him tightly, and he took a deep breath, accepting his fate.
