Dear Yuletide Writer 2015
Oct. 18th, 2015 04:00 pmDear Yuletide Writer,
Hello! Whether you've matched me or are a curious bystander, welcome! I've done Yuletide for a bunch of years now, and I hope that you're not too scared matching up with me. I've loved pretty much everything that's ever been gifted to me in ficathons, and I'm sure that you will write something I will enjoy. (I'm estirose on AO3 as well, btw.)
There are some things I enjoy and some things I dislike, of course. I am happy with all ratings, with slash, femslash, poly, het, and gen. I have a huge weakspot for hurt/comfort and puppypiles. If you want to find a way to stick a cute cat into the plot, I'll love you forever. On the other hand, I dislike some sexual kinks: watersports, vore, fisting and golden showers. I have a squick when it comes to humiliation, both sexual and nonsexual. (For that, someone making a mistake, feeling humiliation, and learning from it is perfectly fine, but someone humiliating someone else just for the sake of it is a nono.) My feelings towards incest are complex, so unless you are writing a same sex sibling ship I'd rather you stay away.
Also, while matching treats things as an AND, I'm very much an OR person; if you don't want to write all of the characters, I'm fine with that.
Now, to my fandoms!
Kamen Rider Blade
Character: Kamijou Mutsuki
Kamen Rider Blade was the first Kamen Rider series I saw, and holds a special place in my heart. Some of that love is probably for the character of Mutsuki, since he was terribly confused and spent a good portion of time being possessed, poor kid. However, I like pretty much all the cast of the series. The only characters I didn't like as much are Hajime and the staff at the Jacranda, and that's a mild dislike if anything. My ships tend towards Kenzaki/Tachibana (though I can also see Kenzaki/Hajime) and Mutsuki/Nozomi.
I also liked a lot of the higher-level Undead, though my favorites are Isaka, Tigress, and Shima.
If you're looking for some story inspiration, I'd love some interaction with his Undead - dream conversations with Shima and the Tigress, trying to deal with the Spider, or anything else to do with his time as a Rider. If you're into dark, maybe if Isaka succeeded in making him Rider? If that doesn't appeal, maybe stories post-series, with Mutsuki helping Tachibana look for him, or something where Karasuma and Tachibana help him find a job or otherwise try to give him life advice. Or maybe a fic set in the Missing Ace universe that goes into why he didn't want to go back to the life of a Kamen Rider at the beginning. Someone tending to Mutsuki while he's injured would be great. And of course any fluff or otherwise featuring him with Nozomi are always welcome.
A couple more thoughts, if you're interested.
Kamen Rider Drive
Characters: Heart Roidmude, Shijima Kiriko
I liked Drive. I didn't start watching until about a quarter of the way through the series, but I was interested enough to watch until the end. Two of my favorite characters are Heart and Kiriko, for different reasons. Heart is interesting to me because while he could be ruthless to humans, he cared deeply for his people. He's a villain and yet extremely likeable. I want to see stuff showing his caring side, helping his people out in the only way he can. On the other hand, I love Kiriko because she's tough and competent. She's the one pulling Shinnosuke along in the early episodes, and she seems to have hauled Chase to that abandoned hospital mid-series. I wanted to see more of that tough side in later series. (I ship Kiriko/Chase, and Heart/Brain, but would be more than happy with genfic here.)
So, give me a story about competent!Kiriko who does things instead of getting kidnapped a lot. What is her home life like? What is her relationship with Gou like outside the Roidmude stuff - we never really get to see them spend much quality time together. And what about her father? We know who he is, so did she have any relationship with him? I'd also love to see more time with Kiriko and the Shift Cars - Justice Hunter and Mad Doctor being my favorites. Heck, give me Kiriko who has a life outside the Special Unit.
For Heart, I want to see more of him. I want to see him spending quality time with Brain, Medic, Freeze, Chase, or any other Roidmude for that matter. I'd like to see him caring about another Roidmude, tending to an injured one, or having someone tend to him. What does he do when he's not onscreen? Find all those neat locations that he and the others are always hiding at?
More about my feelings on Drive including some ranting (contains spoilers for late series).
Monument Valley
Character: Princess Ida
This is a very new fandom for me, and understandably there's little fic for it because there's almost no dialogue. Still, Ida's story intrigues me, especially given the attitude of the ghost that occasionally talks to her. The revelation at the end of the story makes a lot of sense given what the ghost says. (I've played Ida's Dream and am in the middle of Forgotten Shores, so prompts might change as I go along.)
I think what I'd love to see most is something about Ida and her relationship with the Crow people. Is the ending imagery or literal? If it is imagery, why does the ghost call her "thieving princess"? Does the ghost recognize her? If the ending for the main game is true, where do she and the others go? Tell me about the after-story, tell me about what life she finds. Tell me how things changed for her as she went along the paths - maybe this journey changed her into what we see in the ending. I just want to see more of her!
Discussion and some headcanoning for the game.
Power Rangers Dino Charge
Characters: none/any
This team reminds me of what I like the most about Power Rangers - characterization, team bonding, and just being fun. I like all the Rangers (including ones that aren't Rangers yet), and I like the fact that they clash occasionally. I ship Shelby occasionally with either Tyler or Ivan (or both), but gen is all right, and actually preferred for this one.
So, I'd like to see more of the Rangers' time when they are not working at the Museum/being Rangers. Or more of their training time, for that matter. I love Ranger Piles and one of those would also make me happy. Basically, any story about the five or six (or seven, or eight, depending on what part of the world you're in) would make me very happy, as long as they're together.
A few more thoughts, some slightly spoilery for extra Rangers.
Zero / Project Zero / Fatal Frame series
Character: Hinasaki Miku
With so much material now in the Fatal Frame universe, I felt I should limit the scope of what I'm requesting a bit this year. My main interest is in games I-III, but I welcome characters from other parts of the universe. (Be aware that I have not been keeping up on Shadow Priestess, haven't seen the film, and haven't played Spirit Camera or Maiden of Black Water yet.) Of course, the ghosts are always my favorites, and I'll mention some of my favorites in the prompts, but this year I'd like to see a bit more focus on Miku (and to some extent, Kei, Rei, and Mio, but I'm not expecting any of them in fic).
Miku is listed as my only character, because she's the most interesting of the Fatal Frame protagonists to me. She goes through a lot in the three games she appears in, and because she appears in so much of the main canon, she and the Asou family are pretty much the glue that holds the game series together. I dislike what I've picked up of her fate in Maiden of Black Water, and I wouldn't mind fix-it fic. I ship her with Kei and Rei and sometimes Yuu, though none of those are canon. (The person she's implied to end up with canon is the last person I'd want her to end up with, especially since the whole theme of Fatal Frame III would seem to contradict her doing what she does.)
If you are looking for story inspiration, I'd very much like to see the process of healing, for either Miku or one of the other characters that appear in the games. I am a sucker for ghost backstories (I've written "Child Behind", but I'd love to see Mother and Daughter, more of Yae and Sae, the Dollmaker and his daughters, or either of the Broken Necks.) Miku becoming a novelist is kind of my personal headcanon after game III and I don't think that it's directly contradicted by any other material. Also, I'd like to see a happy ending (if AU) for Miku or any of the other playable characters in I-III (for example, the world for Mio and Mayu post-Promise Ending).
A bit more about why I like Miku and the games in general, along with some ranting and some spoilers for Maiden of Black Water.

If you're not familiar with all of these sources, but want to switch from the fandom you matched on:
* Kamen Rider Blade and Kamen Rider Drive are in Japanese, but they're fansubbed (with the exception of the Drive movie and anything yet to be released). Kamen Rider Blade is from 2004 and therefore a bit hard to get a hold of, while Drive is recent (it finished less than a month ago) and it's easy to find fansubbed versions at the moment.
* Monument Valley is a video game for mobile devices. It's about $5.00 total USD on iOS and Android, though it takes up a lot of space, just to warn you. I've included screenshots of the dialogue I've encountered so far here and here, though I highly suggest playing the game if you can afford it. While "Ida's Dream" is free with the main game, you don't get any dialogue out of it. (There's a video of the ending here: https://youtu.be/feGel5DefJo?t=23m20s and walkthroughs of the puzzles in this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuhgk1TKevavsZHYPTnDwT_nSmFfsO65h if you can't afford this but want to write it anyway.)
* Power Rangers Dino Charge is an English-language show, and therefore uploads on Youtube are often pulled, but they're not impossible to find with some looking.
* It's easy to find Let's Plays for each of the Fatal Frame games (including Spirit Camera, not part of my request but neat to watch anyway). I'm in the midst of doing a set of them (with commentary in annotations) for the first four Fatal Frame games. (I'll be using an ancient PS2 for I and III, and a slightly more modern, modded Wii for the second and fourth.)
