Unwanted Wings part 6 (KR Kabuto)
Sep. 20th, 2010 05:39 pmI’ll remember to post the consolidation later for parts 1-5, but this was a fic I started a long, long time ago. And here’s a new part.
Summary: Kagami didn’t want a new Zecter after TheBee.
Kagami didn’t need any special training to know that he was in deep trouble, even though there wasn’t much he could do about it at the moment. Kageyama and Yaguruma knew that he was Gattack’s host, and Kageyama was right; there would be questions as to why Kagami had resisted his Zecter, especially since he knew about it. He wondered if “I didn’t want another Zecter” would wash. Probably not.
“I’m sure the doctor would be happy to keep you under observation for one night,” Kageyama told him. “At least until you can explain things. We’ll post a guard – can’t have Gattack’s new host run into trouble, after all.”
With a smile, he was off, and Kagami was stuck in a bed. At least he had some time to figure out what he was going to say when ZECT officials came for him.
He was still figuring things out two hours later when Tadokoro-san and Misaki-san came into the room. “We heard what happened,” Tadokoro-san said, rubbing his chin.
Kagami, not sure on how to respond, just looked over at Tadokoro-san.
“Looks like you’ll be staying with us anyway,” Tadokoro-san said. “They said something about you being most comfortable in our unit.”
It was reassuring, a little; at least he had Tadokoro-san and Misaki-san to watch his back. Even if he’d never wanted to be Gattack’s partner. Tadokoro-san looked uncomfortable, though, and Kagami wondered what he’d been told.
“I’ll get some water,” Misaki-san said, moving off.
Tadokoro leaned in and spoke softly. “I found out just before the initial briefing that you were on ZECT’s short list for Gattack’s host. I hoped you’d pick up the clues and avoid it….”
“I tried!” Kagami almost cried, trying not to yell. “I stepped on it, I tried to crush it to death, I tried to convince it that it had the wrong person… and then… then it tried to mate with my throat….”
He swore Tadokoro-san was trying not to laugh, even though his boss’ face was as serious as usual. “So, that’s why they said it kept coming back damaged,” he said. “I suppose those incidents on the battlefield… Gattack?”
Kagami nodded. “Bulletproof vest.” It hurt to talk, really, now that the rest of the shock was wearing off. Which probably made sense, given where Gattack had zapped him in the end.
“I knew someone was trying to trail it,” Tadokoro-san said with a nod. “To see where it was going to get so damaged.” His boss breathed deeply. “I guess you would have been outed anyway.”
Outed. Forced to bond, or to at least stay still. Tadokoro-san was right; he’d been doomed.
He wondered if Tendou knew about all this, or if this problem of Kagami’s had totally slipped under the radar.
