Couldn’t Be Better

“So, what did you do in there today?” Taiga asked casually, looking at Wataru. He had to confess, he was nervous every time Wataru went in, as if he wasn’t going to ever come back. But he knew there were versions of himself that knew about Wataru and took care of them in there, so as long as Wataru came out, it wasn’t so bad.
“I helped a version of Mio-san protect her grandson,” Wataru said softly.
“Grandson?” Taiga’s smile became wider. “We have grandkids?”
“Um.” Wataru didn’t seem too happy to spit it out. “For some reason this Mio-san loved… um. Someone else.”
“Oh.” Well, at least Wataru was protective of Mio’s grandson, even if it wasn’t his own or Taiga’s own. That was good. He was willing to protect their own kind, and maybe he’d protect Fangire in his own world. “Well, it’s the family part that counts,” he said. “And that you helped protect… that was very good of you, Wataru.”
“Um. Thanks.” Wataru looked down, and Taiga was struck again by his younger brother’s modesty. If only the rest of the populace saw what he saw, that Wataru was a good person. A lot of the staff at Development and Pioneer knew, but there were lots more that just saw what he had done before.
Someday he’d fix that, just as he’d fixed his younger brother.
“Wataru-san is very brave,” Mio said approvingly as she held her hands over her stomach. She was in good health, and in some ways, the fact that the baby was Wataru’s made this first pregnancy a bit easier on her, physically. Wataru was definitely going to have to continue to be sexually active with his Queen a lot more than he was. Taiga beamed at her.
“He is,” he replied. “I’m proud of him.”
Mio smiled back. “So am I,” she said, and went over to her, to hold her close.
Things were going well, and he couldn’t be happier.
