Getting ready for Yuletide

ETA: As a side note to all this, it does look like I either missed two of the Power Rangers series (RPM and SPD), or they were hiding. So, PR authors, wanna do Yuletide?

I love Yuletide. This is my third year or so, and it's something I enjoy doing. Given the controversies this year, I thought I might talk about my own processes for choosing fandoms to write in (I haven't decided which fandoms to ask for, though I suspect that I should at least ask for Mio min Mio and Final Fantasy II).

* I must have either heard of it, or thought it was easy to find the source material for, or it intrigued me. There are several anthropomorfic "fandoms" I'm including on my tentative list, a web comic or two, and a music video that I want to see.

* I had to exclude most movie (and a lot of TV) fandoms because I didn't have access to the movie/series in question. I'd love to write fanfic for "Sneakers", for example, but I don't own a copy. As soon as the MPAA stops being so stupid, maybe I can start buying movies again :(

* It has to be a version I'm familiar with. I'm vaguely familiar with the Gokusen manga canon, but not enough to write fic for it; Gokusen (tv) is questionable, but I can get my hands on copies. Likewise, I can more easily access my NSTP stuff and not my OSTP stuff, but only OS is being offered this year.

* If it's a book fandom, either the author has to have said that fanfic is okay, or the author has to be dead. I respect authors' rights not to have fanfic written of their stories. I figure they'll also respect my right not to buy their stuff because they're anti-fanfic. (This unfortunately includes Diana Gabaldon, George R.R. Martin, and Robin McKinley. Sorry, McKinley's "Blue Sword" is one of my favorite novels ever, but....)

So, here is my tentative list for offered fandoms. I suspect I will be winnowing this down, as I need to double-check an author or two for deadness and/or okayness with fanfic, and one or two of these I'm not sure of.

Swinging by to say I was pleasantly surprised to see Digimon Tamers on your list.

Thanks! It's probably the biggest of my Yuletide fandoms, but I enjoyed it a lot and I don't see tons of fic for it.

It's my favorite Digimon series, but I find that it's not incredibly popular within the fandom. Both Adventures have tons and tons of fanfic, but the later series have comparatively little fanfic. And I admit, there's very little Tamers fic out there that really hits what I like best about the series.

Sorry to get off on this tangent at you, but Digimon is probably the oldest fandom of mine that I still consider myself part of.
