Made it onto cnet news.com.

Sorry I don't have the link as I'm blogging from my cellphone, but cnet is www.news.com and it's on the front page.

This so does not look good for me renewing my paid accounts. I'm likely moving/backup posting to gj and doing my own blog.

I just archived my journal, as well as crossing_lostrp (the ljarchive utility on sourceforge.net now lets you archive communities too!).

Just in case.

I get why you're pissed, but I'm not sure picking up our toys and moving elsewhere is necessarily the way to go.

Clearly there's an uproar, let's see what Brad et al. have to say before we all get super!pissed.

Some of the deleted journals were very clearly pedophiles who needed to be stopped. The issue is making sure the (overworked) abuse team in future has/takes the time needed to weed out the fiction/RPG journals from the ones that need to go.

Clearly childlove needed to go. As did users claming to love little girls/boys. (I don't recall the link offhand, but there is a more legitimate watchgroup concerned about pedophiles on LJ)

Supposedly, there's a statement coming in abot an hour or two, so I'm watching for it.

When I talk about leaving, it's more along the lines of not renewing this paid account and using it as a mirror - not deleting it in a fit of spite.

They did get some pedo communities, yes. That was justified. It's the overboardness on the part of SA that irks me.

Don't expect much. I've watched LJ since before they were acquired by Six Apart. I saw the uproar over the "nipple" icons, the uproar over the introduction of ads despite the "never ever!" pledge, the introduction of "sponsored" communities and many other events.

SA/LJ is seriously tone deaf about the handling of, well, just about everything. Even when there may be a defensible reason for something, they invariably execute it in the most offputting, customer-angering way possible. This is no different.

And I fully expect the same ultimate response: "tough shit."

Oh, they won't say it in so many words. They'll sugar coat it and dip it in honeyed words, but the advertisers are firmly in the driver's seat. Mere journalists are a resource, not customers.

I'm starting to make the preparations to leave if need be. Frankly, I was considering a permanent account next month, but I'm less thrilled about the developments with every hour that goes by. I've already turned off my automatic payment that's due at the end of July.

Also, I friended you over on GJ. Not that I have anything over there but just in case.
