I don't know if anyone remembers a game called "Chip's Challenge", which showed up in a few different places, including at least one of Microsoft's entertainment packs. Recently, I discovered a clone of this game called Tile World.

This isn't one of those games that takes up gigabytes of hard drive space or requires a very fast processor. In fact, the original commercial Windows version of Chip's Challenge ran on Windows 3.1. My Mac OS X install of Tile World takes up around 9 megs, and it looks like the Windows version takes up about 7. (This game also runs on Linux, but I don't have Linux to test.)

Chip's Challenge/Tile World is a puzzle game, but you also have to have pretty decent reflexes. Patience, too, because you will be doing levels over and over again. The original commercial version had 140+ levels, to boot.

Since the people who did Tile World couldn't include the Windows data file, Tile World comes with user-created levels (including some introductory levels), though there are instructions on how to install the commercial data file, if you happen to have a legal copy of Chip's Challenge like I do. Either way, it's rather addicting.

(One small gripe is that it doesn't come with instructions. To get key commands, press "?" when you're in the game.)

You can find the game at http://www.muppetlabs.com/~breadbox/software/tworld/ for the game and sets. If you want the user-generated levels, get the one with the CCLP2.
