Summary: Deneb and Yuuto and the stars.
Disclaimer: Characters don't belong to me.
"Deneb?"
Deneb started. He'd been busy making sure his host had enough to eat. The youngster had been caught up in the grief of losing his parents; Deneb had been busy trying to get his new young host to eat and take care of himself.
ZeroLiner had stopped in a grassy field, far away from civilization. Just like the man that had been his host before, the boy loved stars. Which was not surprising; this child would be that man someday.
"Yes, Yuuto?" he asked, settling down beside the child. Little Yuuto was looking at his stars again, as if to find answers, or at least some comfort.
The solemn seven-year-old looked over at him. "Where are we?"
"I... don't know," Deneb said honestly. Did it really matter? The time and place didn't matter to him as long as Yuuto was there and he was safe.
Yuuto snorted. Apparently the where and when mattered more to Yuuto than it did to Deneb. Which should have been obvious, of course. To an astronomer, the where and when mattered; Deneb was not an astronomer.
He would need to become one, as well as a teacher on other subjects, if he couldn't find a way to put Yuuto in school. He hoped he could. Deneb was not human, could not be human, couldn't socialize Yuuto the way Yuuto needed to be socialized.
Besides, his host had at least some memories of school, so he must have gotten the younger Yuuto in somehow.
But it seemed so much easier to just take care of everything regarding the younger Yuuto himself. It just wasn't good for Yuuto.
"You're right, I should have checked," he said gently.
"You should have," Yuuto agreed. He looked up at the stars again.
Deneb sighed. He'd have to do a better job next time at checking the place and date. He said nothing, bowing at Yuuto and shuffling back to ZeroLiner.
There was so much to be done.
