Last night, I wrote DVD commentaries. Tonight, I'm doing crackfic, apparently. This follows up "Promoted Pawn".

Title: Pawn To Queen
Fandom: Kamen Rider Kiva
Author: Estirose
Rating: 8+
Spoilers: late 20s, early 30s
Summary: Wataru has more problems than he thinks.

Wataru sat with Mio-san, eating lunch. She had been quiet and withdrawn, had been ever since they'd encountered the man who had called him "Queen". He himself had hoped the man would never show up again.

But as Mio-san froze, he knew that said man was going to show up in his life again.

"Two Queens," the man said in amusement.

"Bishop," Mio-san said, while Wataru stared at her, and then the man.

"In this game of chess, the rules have changed," the man, Bishop, said. "The pawn is changed into the queen... of the opposing side." He looked at Mio, then Wataru. "But it could be worse. And at least this way, we'll have one of you around to fulfill the Queen's duties when the other can't."

"Bishop, he's not part of this," Mio-san said. "Wataru. Run while you still can!"

"But-" Wataru said, getting up almost involuntarily as his muscles decided to obey Mio-san's order.

"He is a Queen as well, Queen," Bishop said. "As much one as you are. Just... male. The third one in our history."

"But, Wataru...." Mio-san said frantically. "No, I won't let-"

"I'm not doing anything," Bishop said in amusement. "It's his own nature that has changed him."

"What does it mean?" Wataru asked. "What does being Queen mean?" Maybe he'd get an answer.

"Why, taking care of traitors, of course," Bishop said. "Here, I brought you a present, young man."

The man, Bishop, fished around in his coat. Wataru watched as he withdrew a box. "What's that?"

"A necklace," Bishop said. "I apologize for the femininity; it's been centuries since we had a second Queen. Please take it and wear it."

"Wataru, don't," Mio warned. "That'll make you fully Queen."

"Why is that a bad thing?" Bishop asked, as he took the necklace out. Wataru was grateful they'd decided to do a picnic lunch as Bishop placed it around his neck. "He is a Queen."

"Which of us gets to marry King?" Mio asked. "Wouldn't this confuse things? Isn't it better just to let Wataru go?"

Bishop shrugged. "Wataru is a Queen. He might not be able to produce a heir with the current King, but... you both are Queens. The Queen and King together is an important thing for the continuance of the Fangire. As a Queen, Wataru would be - if symbolically only, for obvious and familial reasons - joined with the King."

Wataru wondered in horror if he would be required to sleep with the current King, and decided that running would be a good idea at the moment. So he ran.
