intoabar, even if I don't participate every time. I've pimped it before; the idea is that you choose one character from some media source, give the mods a list of 1-4 fandoms you're willing to write for the second, and then they choose a random fandom from that list, then a character from that fandom, and you have to write at least 500 words of these characters meeting in a public or semi-public location.
I've done this four times now. Yae Kurosawa/Munakata from the Fatal Frame games was my first chosen character, and the random character was Kurenai Wataru from Kamen Rider Kiva, and they met at the Café mald'amour (during the time-travel episodes, due to the fact that Fatal Frame I was also set in 1986). Miku Hinasaki (and daughter) ended up in the same McDonalds as Adam Newman from the 1990s version of the Tomorrow People for my second. Kei Amakura from Fatal Frame III walked into a strange bar and talked to Sakuya Le Bel Shirogane of Hatoful Boyfriend (that was a challenge, as Sakuya is a fantail pigeon, long story). And for my fourth, I chose Tim Goodman of Pokemon Detective Pikachu, who ended up walking into Dr. Harvey's clinic after unexpectedly arriving in Stardew Valley's Pelican Town and ended up having a chat with Maru.
This time around, I picked Yae's sister Sae Kurosawa. This will be interesting, because I can either write her as a live person or as a ghost, though I'd probably have to write non-cursed Sae (White Kimono) as a ghost unless I find a situation where her standard ghostly self makes more sense. The fandoms I've picked this year are Fantasy Life, My Time at Portia, Stardew Valley, and Kamen Rider Kiva.
ETA: I switched out Fantasy Life for The Expression Amrilato, because Of my four initial choices, Fantasy Life would be the hardest to insert Sae into, and Expression Amrilato is set in Japan.
So, three of the fandoms I listed make it easy to get a list of major characters and more major minor characters (though I'll note that the Kamen Rider wiki also lists the Go-ongers, who never showed up in canon). Fantasy Life's wiki splits a lot of the more major npcs into subpages, and about half of the pages still on the main wiki character page are what I call "request npcs", otherwise known as those npcs who only request things from your character (some of these are animals; there's a cat request npc in Castele and a dog reqest npc in Porto Puerto). It'll be interesting if I get one of them as I'll have to do some worldbuilding. Also, the wiki uses the European names and I'm in North America, so there are some characters (very few, thankfully) who are listed with their European names instead of their North American ones (Europe's Cherry vs NA's Poppy, for example) which I'll have to remember to use the European names for if they get chosen.
