Blergh. I need a yarn substitute.
Jan. 29th, 2022 12:03 pmSo I got a bunch of yarn for Christmas last year! Great! It's from Hobby Lobby. Blergh. (For those who are international or otherwise not familiar with this really terrible (what we Americans call a dumpster fire) company, it's run by conservative Christians who successfully sued to avoid their staff getting access to contraceptives, were forced to return Middle Eastern artifacts, their stores have been hostile to Jewish customers, they are anti-LGBTQ+, and I'm sure I'm forgetting all their nastiness.)
Most of the yarn is pretty standard and I can find equivalents from a whole bunch of other companies. One, however, is not up on the yarn substitution website that I've consulted and unfortunately I've not found anything on it to even know what to ask for. So if anybody knows any substitute for Yarn Bee Lush Loft, let me know!
Here's what I do know, for ease of trying to find a substitute:
* It's likely a medium weight yarn, taking a US-8 knitting needle or a J-10, 6MM crochet hook.
* It may have an "eyelash" yarn texture, but most of the kind of "eyelash" yarns I've seen doesn't look like that. It's extremely fuzzy and soft. (My crochet feels like those soft ankle socks that you can buy.)
* I couldn't find the fiber makeup on the page, but according to Ravelry.com, it's 83% Manufactured Fibers - Nylon / Polyamide, 17% Manufactured Fibers - Polyester.
(The other thing they carry that I like - Claey's Old-Fashioned Horehound Candy - can fortunately be bought other places.)
ETA: Did a bit of yarn shopping for something else today and found Carron Latte Cake. Not quite the same thing, but still quite fluffy. It's got a typical "eyelash" structure.
