So, I've been doing the open beta of Multiplayer My Time at Sandrock. (I think if they iron out some things and do a couple more tutorials it'll be a fun thing! I'm hoping to lure some of my flist into multiplayer once the whole game is finalized.)

Posted about it on Tumblr, my game crashed, I looked at the 2nd screen after Pathea's logo and decided maybe they didn't want people posting about it, took the post down, put something more general on, kept revising it and took it down too. And then I looked at it again and got very confused.

(No, I'm not asking for legal advice here, I'm just kind of... what in the heck are you doing, Pathea? Did something get lost in translation between languages?)

So, when you boot into the multiplayer version you see a screen that says "Non-Disclosure Notice(NDA)". The rest of it is text that basically they're still working on multiplayer and things may change between the test and the final release. Nothing about anything you're not supposed to disclose and nothing in the invite about the fact that you can't disclose anything. And there are a handful of let's plays of the first (closed beta) (public beta) multiplayer and the current one, including Pathea's own, on Youtube. So I'm... not sure what they are okay with, or if that was just letting people know that the limited test was not a final product. Which is kind of a given, I think? They outright state on the update news on Steam (yeah, I just checked while writing this post) that beta players should "Feel free to share the multiplayer update with your audience or friends, but please be aware of that this is a test version only and it does not represent the final product, something may change in the future."

In any case, I've been running about on two servers, popping rudely in and out of various town (including not returning any greetings because I didn't see them until it was too late - I've learned to pay a bit better attention!), and generally trying to figure out how multiplayer differed from single player. I don't do online multiplayer much nowadays (apart from the occasional quick game of Among Us and I've had a Guild Wars 2 account for a while - though I almost never do raids, just single-player stuff and the occasional randomly assisting people there). I've resolved to not try to do everything by myself. I'm somewhat hampered by the fact that I'm using a Steam Deck, and I keep forgetting that, oh maybe I should plug at least a keyboard in.

I'm so looking forward to posting guides on Tumblr because some of the game is really confusing, especially for people who have been playing the single-player game for a while. The Pathea Discord has been wonderful and full of people willing to tell you where things go (since the wiki... understandably doesn't cover multiplayer beta stuff other than including beta screenshots of some of them).

(And on the solo side of the game, just for my own notes, apparently Pathea is introducing an anti-frustration feature in the next bug fix update for one of the recent missions that involved lots of platforming - fail enough times and it will pop you to the safe area right beyond. Thank goodness!)
