Rune Factory 4 Special
Jul. 5th, 2023 09:52 pmNot very far in because I just picked it up after work today (one of two things I picked up for the Steam Sale - the other was a heavily discounted detective game). I have it for 3DS but this is an enhanced version that brings a few QoL changes to the game - one biggie being that I don't have to pray to the RNG gods to actually let me start Act 3! Also, you no longer have to choose between slotting in the Escape spell and giving your PC damaging spells, which I greatly enjoy. Could I have found a way to get my 3DS version onto my PC/Steam Deck? Yes. But I can tell I'm going to enjoy the extra modes.
(Also, Vishnal is the best NPC companion to fight with in dungeons and I'm so glad they changed out his VA to someone else.)
Graphics are not hugely better than the 3DS screen, but they upscaled everything nicely so Ventuswill looks better for sure.
The beginning of the game is very faithful to the original, even to the cringeworthy gender selection dialogue.
One slight problem I faced when loading this onto my Steam Deck (have not tried to play it on PC yet) is that there is no really good way to quit the game without going to Steam's game menu and quitting there. In some ways, that's faithful to the 3DS version, where you had to press the home menu to quit, but it's a bit irritating.
ETA: Apparently you can get back to the main menu, which includes the quit option, from the save screen (not sure if you can do it without saving).
