I don't write Doctor Who fic very often, but I think those on my flist who follow the series will understand why I'm writing it now. Set at the end of/post-"Hand of Fear".

It was hard to believe, she realized, that she was finally off the TARDIS. After so much happening to her, she'd been ready to leave, or at least she'd thought she was. Now she wasn't so sure.
As she stood on the unfamiliar street, laughing a little at the Doctor's inability to get to the right place once more, she wondered what her life would be like. How she would fit into the world she'd been gone from for what seemed like years.
She had no doubt that the Doctor would remember her, and it was comforting in a way, that somebody knew that you existed and that you were special. But she couldn't help but feel a little lost. Like her life had taken an unexpected turn without her.
She remembered what she'd said to the Doctor, in those last few minutes. Travel did broaden the mind. She would find something, and she would find her way back to the life she'd been living before the Doctor had come into her life.
Certainly, her life did feel like the mismatched set of objects that she'd taken with her at the moment, but life would go on. She'd find a phone, she'd call someone, she'd figure out where she was, she'd get home.
After all, she had her whole life ahead of her. Might as well live it. Might as well go on.
