What I'm playing right now
May. 14th, 2024 02:40 amStardew Valley, of course.
My Time at Sandrock is on pause, waiting for the update we beta tested to come out.
Block Tower TD - this was under $10 and I'm enjoying it. (It's normally $10; I got it for $6 USD)
So, concept is that you keep buying land to put towers/mine resources on. The game automates a lot for you - for example, unlike most Tower Defense games, you don't upgrade your towers at all. Instead, you accumulate wood/stone/gold and generate/regenerate mana to power/build your towers, along with bringing more land into existence to put more wood/stone/gold.
Prices go up the more land/production buildings/towers you make.
The towers are pretty much the same as you'd expect - you start with the ability to make simple crossbows, buy more plains/forests, and build woodcutters and mines.
The quirky thing about this game is that every time you gain a level of knowledge, you have 3-4 choices as to what you can choose to get, and they're all random. They're presented as cards. You have to choose between one of the random choices - do you get a new land type? A new tower? A new production building? Do you increase production?
It's both fun and hard - you have to keep expanding, keep building, keep producing. Every single level. Like any Tower Defense game, if you prep for large hp but slow moving monsters, you'll find yourself losing to a virtual horde of small but fast monsters.
While not a five-minute game (there are no saves, so if you have to exit out your current playthrough is gone), it's not a bad game for its cost and I certainly hope that the dev continues to improve on it.
Here's someone playing if you're a more visual person. I had a hard time finding stuff under 15 minutes, this is close. It's actually gameplay of the demo, but the full game plays very similar (and this is nearly a year old so they've added features to the full game).
