So, I got the Desert Festival and decided to do Skull Cavern runs for all three days for fun (also, best way of getting Calico Eggs for Stuff).

There was only one problem, as I discovered in my first day: I'd sent my pickaxe to be upgraded (Iron to Gold) just before the festival. Oops!

I at least had bombs so that I could get past rocks + staircases, so it wasn't a terrible ordeal. I failed one quest (get to level 30) but the other two were kill iridium slimes and the serpent monsters, and they were happily common.

If you end up at the Desert Festival (more likely in year 2 or year 3; I didn't do what needed to be done to set up for the first two years and just got it year 3) it's worth your time to hit up the trivia guy and then do your Skull Cavern run.

(I picked up 3 new outfits - two of which I liked - a hair bow that matches Abigail's, and a bunch of mystery boxes.)

Also I may have finished the volcano dungeon (introduced in 1.5) on the first day I arrived at Ginger Island haha.
