More Stardew Valley Expanded stuff
Jun. 20th, 2024 12:28 pmI've been playing Stardew Valley with the Stardew Valley Expanded (SVE) mod, and I'm doing what's called a perfection run. Perfection is basically "gather everything, build everything, cook everything" and you get a neat cutscene for your efforts but it's far from required, just something to aim for if you need a direction to go in. SVE adds a ton of new stuff but balances it out with some early-game help (you get strawberry seeds - an early game moneymaker - and a free quality sprinkler early on) so that makes it easier.
So, according to the Perfection Tracker in-game (I can't really use the Stardew Valley Checkup one because I'm running Expanded):
* I've shipped 83% produce and forage.
* I've got 2 of the 4 obelisks (I still need the mountain and beach ones, but they're not high priority)
* I need the golden clock (this is my main goal right now) and am at about 10% of the required funds.
* I've met the monster slayer hero goal several times over now.
* I'm at 91% great friends - I've only got 4 people to go, 3 of which are SVE characters (Apples, Scarlett, and Morgan, who all show up after a certain point - Apples requires Community Center completed, Scarlett requires you befriend Sophia, and Morgan requires you befriend the wizard). I'm also behind in befriending Krobus.
* I've got all my skills (and in fact, have done all the Mastery levels as well).
* I'm still working on my Stardrops. One of which is because I haven't caught all the fish and the 2nd is because I haven't grown the Sweet Gem Berry and placed it where it needs to go.
* I'm at 47% on the cooking recipes. I'm apparently still missing some.
* I'm at 48% on the crafting recipes. I'm also apparently missing some of these.
* I'm at 91% of the fish. I think most of the remaining ones are SVE ones, though I also need the midnight carp from vanilla.
* Golden Walnuts: I'm missing 8. One of them is because I've just been unlucky with the Volcano Dungeon chests; two of them are from a mini-game that you have to be in the right place and the right time for, and the rest are a puzzle that I just haven't put together the crafting stuff for. On the other hand, I did get through the simon says-type minigame without having to resort to paying the Joja parrot, so... good?
In all, I'm at 63%, which isn't bad for year 6 on a fairly casual farm. Combat is definitely my current highest skill - I'm regularly running the dangerous versions of the vanilla mines (this is also a vanilla feature), the Highlands (a SVE location) and the Galdoran Continent (also a SVE location). I'm regularly beating one of the two new SVE bosses (Apophis) and beat the other one once, just enough to get a drop which opened up a new decorations shop. Part of this is I have the Fairy trinket (which auto-heals you every so often) so if I can retreat from attacks I can quickly come back to the fight.
My mods for this runthrough:
* Stardew Valley Expanded + its dependencies (Content Patcher and Farm Type Manager)
* Grandpa's Farm, which is an optional yet recommended farm for SVE.
* UI Info Suite 2, which gives you information about various things.
* Generic Mod Config Menu, which allows you to adjust mod settings in-game.
* Line Sprinklers Redux, which gives you buildable line sprinklers as the name implies.
* Chests Anywhere, which basically allows you to access chests anywhere. I have this restricted to "Local" because I mostly use it to a) allow me to take things out of the shipping box and b) adjust the behavior of Automate.
* Automate, which automates collection from machines.
* WhatDoYouWant, which gives you a list of what you need for the Community Center/Perfection. This doesn't behave completely with the SVE items (for example, it can tell me that I need a Kittyfish but not where to find it and when it appears) but it at least tells me that I still need to collect/build/cook x for perfection.
* Raven's Slightly Easier Combat - this doesn't affect the SVE-only monsters for the most part but it does make vanilla monsters 10% easier to defeat.
* Raven's Tiny Shop Sales - puts in a random item or two in vanilla shops at a markup.
I've considered adding in either an altered version of the mod Clint Sells Radioactive Ore (changing the sell condition to completing the Qi Dangerous Mines quest) or the Radiactive Statue mod (lowering the cost to 30% but also knocking the output down to 30% - that is, 30 Qi gems, but only outputs 1-3 radioactive ore/day) but neither of the above has been my priority as I have the mines in their dangerous form and can easily get radioactive ore.
