I've finished the main game and now am doing essentially side quests (that are main quests?).
I finished the end of what I remember as the main storyline in My Time at Portia - that is, the main villain getting his rear end kicked, most of the rest of the villains imprisoned, my character's Dad coming for a visit and builder bout etc.
There are some main missions that I kind of remember from the game? And some new ones. I remember the Django's Dojo storyline for sure. There's a whole plotline with two Minions with an F in evil now. Mason from Sandrock comes to town (more about him in a minute) and there's also a bit involving Musa where Musa breaks Higgins (for about a week) and then apparently we can befriend him.
I finished the last main story before the credits (builder bout) at around level 43. I'm now at level 48. My main goals are to a) get the strongest weapon available in game (okay, one of two with the same stats) and to get Higgins to Good Friend - note that the only Good Friend I have in the game is Albert, dunno how that happened. I'm not giving out any gifts (except to Higgins) and I think the greatest gift I'm going to give him is letting him win first place in the near future.
Anyway, some further observations:
* I miss two Portia mechanics when I go to Sandrock: no fall damage, and not having to restart an entire mission if I get defeated by the boss.
* The factory (and level 3 assembly station, which is not required but oh so useful) make things so much easier. I still have to break some things down a bit by making the required items first and then the main item (I suppose I should probably build another skiver) but it's better than nothing and having the level 3 assembly station build items is so much easier than having to have them in your quickbar.
* I do enjoy the Deepest Ruin; I do wish that it hadn't been the model for the Dangerous Ruins in Sandrock as I don't enjoy being graded on my level performance. Also, I'm having to hold off on running it because it keeps trying to put me on level 55, where I promptly get ko'd and ejected.
Sandrock references in Portia: Basically, Mason (who puts in an appearance) and Logan (who does not). Mostly to promote the new game, I guess? The wanted poster for Logan was definitely put in before they styled the Sandrock posters for him as that poster looks like it was drawn by Jasmine, as opposed to the Sandrock ones, which were drawn by Unsuur. (Unsuur really could have done with the printing press we built for Mei; it would make his job much easier.) Mason's got a totally different VA and he's the Sandrock version of him but not - can't really put my finger on it what's wrong but he just throws me out of immersion.
Plotwise, I think Portia feels... unfinished maybe... after playing Sandrock. After the whole villain plotline with the All-Source, there's really only the builder bout and some end-game missions (the Dojo, the two bandit brothers, Mason, befriending Higgins), but they don't really feel cohesive. On the other hand, Sandrock's equivalent is much more cohesive. You've defeated the baddies (for the most part) but now there's a ton you have to do to save the town. It isn't just defeating the baddies, it's getting the greenification efforts underway now that the baddies are no longer there to obstruct your efforts.
Admittedly, Portia doesn't need saving after the All-Source plotline. It's green, there are no major enemies, the main bits of growth (like South Block) have been put in place and there's a tunnel to Sandrock, everything's just adding little bits to a town rather than what has to be done in Sandrock. But I dunno, feels like a bit of a letdown.
Once I get my goals done I'm heading back to Sandrock. I miss it! Also, I really haven't played with the DLC that I beta tested so I really need to do that.
