Light is on for: Anybody
What's in the Bowl? Short fic!
Let Me Know: A fandom, prompt, and character.
My list of fandoms I can write in got kind of big, so I've listed them in a different post. I write in a variety of live-action tv series (mostly of the SF/Fantasy bent or Toku/AmeriToku), some Disney movies (Mulan and The Little Mermaid), and a variety of video games (mostly cozies/farming - Stardew Valley, Fantasy Life, Coral Island, My Time at Portia/Sandrock etc, but I also have an enduring love for the Project Zero/Fatal Frame games and I just finished Stray).
Other info: My shipfic tends to be fairly gen-ish and I can't write porn to save my life.

Can only wait strong (Mulan, Mulan's Father)
Date: 2024-10-31 04:01 am (UTC)He can't help but worry for his only child. He did his best by her, at least what any father would do for a daughter. And he loved her, because what father would not love their child?
And now she was off, fighting a war that he should be fighting in because she believed it was cruel to force him back into battle. Mulan had always been headstrong, and he'd taught her to stay strong in her beliefs. He had expected her to protest, but he had not expected her to go in his place.
Now he finds it hard to sleep. Is his daughter safe? She must be posing as a man; it is the only way she could fool anyone into thinking she should be there. Which means he cannot send a message to her, and he cannot determine whether or not she is safe.
As safe as she can be, at least. War is hell, he knows that even if Mulan does not. He does not envy her, being a young warrior with something to hide. He can only hope she finds some support, or at least her way.
He does not want to lose his daughter.
For the moment, he must treat her as a son, the son he never had. Because that is the only way she can live right now, and thus how he should think of her. A son proudly gone to war.
But no. She is still his daughter, and he misses her bright presence. He can only hope that she comes back someday and she can still laugh. It is a vain hope, but in his worry it is the only thing he can hold onto.
