Random ficlet (PRLG)
Aug. 3rd, 2012 05:42 pmThis is what my plot bunnies do when I set them loose. Vaguely in the "White is the Color of Guilt" universe. Karone and Kendrix.
"I can't believe he did that." Karone folded her arms. "An *All-Ranger* alert?"
Kendrix handed a cup of tea over to her successor. "We were surprised when we got it, too. At least Leo knows so that he can tell Andros that you're all right."
"He shouldn't have had to do that." Karone was going to yell at her brother next time she saw him. She had things to do, and she didn't have to report in to anyone. Except, apparently, now she did. She'd been glad to have a team for a while, but she hadn't realized at the time that her choice had tied her to a network of people who wanted to know where she was most of the time.
Especially her brother. Didn't he have enough to worry about with his own team without worrying about someone else's?
"We told him you were fine, even if we didn't know where you were." Kendrix's smiling, calm confidence reminded her that not everybody was as hysterical as her brother. Her teammates knew she didn't need a babysitter. "If we did, we'd have called an alert ourselves."
Two teams. Karone had two teams, in a way. Her brother's, and her own. She was welcome to be with either team, no matter how temporary she'd been for one and never been on the other.
"Thank you," she said. It wasn't a phrase she'd been raised with, but she'd learned. Her teammates had confidence in her and didn't care about what she'd been. She might not have been Kendrix, but she was one of their Pinks, and therefore they trusted her and her abilities.
It almost made up for what her brother had done. This was the third alert that she knew of - the others had been when someone at Lightspeed had disappeared, and one when a teenage member of the Dino Thunder team had gone missing. She wondered if the other two had found it as embarassing as she had.
Maybe she should thud her brother. Hard. He deserved it. In the meantime, she thought, she had a great team.
