I have a sudden desire to play Zodiac (a Final Fantasy pen-and-paper RPG), but that would require finding people who want to play with me.

That's a large part of the reason I have very little pen-and-paper experience. I've heard of people using Skype for stuff. I bet people run games of that at conventions, although that wouldn't help you right now. I have no idea.
